Ferrari debuts all-new Luce high-performance EV
Highly aerodynamic five-seater with a peak output of 1,035 hp
MANILA: Ferrari has stepped into a new era by officially debuting the Luce - its first-ever all-electric sports car.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the powertrain setup of the Ferrari Luce?
The Ferrari Luce uses a quad-motor setup, with one motor unit per wheel. What is the range of the Ferrari Luce?
The Ferrari Luce can cover more than 530 kilometers from a single full charge.Notably, the said vehicle is built on a completely new all-electric architecture, which the Maranello-based marque hints will enable more electric vehicle (EV) nameplates in the future. This milestone, however, didn’t just pop up overnight as the brand already has electrified rides in its lineup.
Specifically, the all-new Ferrari Luce joins the F80, the 296, and the Testarossa hybrids as one of the Prancing Horse’s more sustainable high-performance offerings.
But what is the all-new Ferrari Luce offering? Let’s find out here.
Powertrain
For propulsion, the Ferrari Luce uses a quad-motor setup, with one motor per wheel. The aforementioned is paired with a 122-kilowatt-hour battery. Altogether, the four motor setup can produce up to 1,035 horsepower (hp). It also has a range of exceeding 530 kilometers (km), according to the Italian car manufacturer.
Interestingly, the car’s full power is only brought out when activating its launch control. Only 430 hp is utilized when under rear-wheel-drive “Range Mode,” while all-wheel-drive “Performance Mode” can mete out up to 980 hp. Range, of course, will vary depending on the modes mentioned above.
With the aforementioned maximum power output, the Ferrari Luce is said to be capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 2.5 seconds. It also has a top speed of over 310 kph.
In addition to its four-motor powertrain, the Luce uses an active suspension that was derived from the F80. This goes together with an independent rear steering system, a torque vectoring system, a high-performance regenerative braking system, and an in-house developed sound generation system that uses data from a precision accelerometer.
According to Ferrari, the Luce also boasts one of the lowest drag coefficients (cD) in the history of its road cars. Specifically, it has 0.254 cD, which was achieved thanks to active aerodynamic components, ranging from something as basic as keeping its overall shape as slick as possible, to highly advanced components like active grille shutters, custom wipers, and active ride height actuation.
Regarding charging, Ferrari said the Luce has a 350-kilowatt (kW) maximum output at its direct current port. With this, the car can gain up to 70 kWh of energy in just 20 minutes.

Exterior
As mentioned above, the Ferrari Luce’s design prioritized aerodynamics. And combined with the fact that it doesn’t lug around a front-mounted internal combustion engine, the car looks unlike any other supercar the Italian brand has produced.
Specifically, the model gets a tapered front nose, a dramatically raked roofline, and a high-roofed midsection that give the car unusual proportions, at least for a Ferrari.
From the side, one can see that its passenger section is surrounded by bodywork like a shell. At the same time, it looks like a lowered crossover with its high-riding roof and four-door configuration.
While unusual, the Luce does carry some signature Ferrari designs, such as its yellow brake calipers and its round-shaped quad LED taillights.
Size-wise, the Ferrari Luce is 5,026 milliliters (mm) long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,544 mm in height. Its wheelbase, meanwhile, spans 2,961 mm.
Interior
Inside the Ferrari Luce is a minimalist interior that presents a good mix of physical buttons and digital displays. And yes, this nameplate is a true five-seater.
Notably, the car comes with dedicated physical controls for its automatic climate control system. It also comes with premium Italian leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats with massage functionality, and a front cabin armrest.
For the driver, the model provides a flat-bottom retro-inspired steering wheel and an instrument panel that combines analog gauges with a digital display. Its central infotainment system and its rear cabin display, meanwhile, are Samsung OLED screens sized at 12.9 and 12 inches, respectively.
The said main display is linked to a 21-piece speaker set with a sound profile and processing handled by the brand’s proprietary sound software platform.
Other amenities present in the Ferrari Luce include, but are not limited to:
- Google Maps
- Apple Maps
- MyFerrari App
- Gorilla Glass surfaces
- Magnetized key lock
Safety
The Ferrari Luce combines a comprehensive passive safety kit with a suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS). The aforementioned include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, driver monitoring, and lane departure warning - among others.
Availability
In its home country of Italy, the Ferrari Luce retails at €550,000. That’s roughly around P39 million. This includes an eight-year warranty for key electric powertrain parts.
For now, there’s no word yet if the Luce will be launched in Southeast Asia (by extension, the Philippines), but it would be interesting to see how the global market will react to the Maranello marque’s first-ever all-electric speedster.
