First eco-run for EVs aims to further drive electric vehicle adoption

MANILA: To push electric vehicle adoption in the country, the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) will hold the country's first eco-run for EVs this Saturday, November 6.

With the theme "Accelerating the Switch to EV Charging," the eco-run will showcase EVs along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila. Owners of EVs from Metro Manila and nearby areas will conduct a driving tour.

The event will be supported by EVAP’s sub-group, the EV Owners Society (EVOS), a startup community of EV owners in the country that was established in January 2021.

EVAP said that the "Switch to EV Charging" event aims to support proposed legislation for use of EVs in the country, which is now lodged in the bicameral conference committee. 

Participants of the eco-run can follow two assigned routes, starting from 8 a.m.

The first route is the North Loop, which runs from the Land Rover showroom in San Juan City, going to Unioil station along EDSA Guadalupe. The South Loop starts from Nissan Pasong Tamo in Makati City, passes along Nissan Otis, and ends at the Unioil station in EDSA Guadalupe. 

The "Switch to EV Charging" coincides with the ongoing 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), in which EVAP is a participant, the association said.  

COP26 gathers international parties to push the implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, a legally binding international treaty on climate change.

“EVAP is unrelentingly spearheading the push towards the use of EVs so the country could do its part in the rising international drive towards a greener planet,” EVAP President Edmund Araga said.

“In our little way, we aim to stage a show of force to gain the backing of our honorable legislators so we could earn a major milestone in our proposed switch to air pollution-free and energy-efficient EVs,” he concluded.
