GAC-Grab partnership results to initial 20k EV-unit deployment in SEA
Initial batch will consist of Aion models
MANILA: Grab has partnered up with GAC Motor in order to roll out a fleet of electric vehicles (EV) across various regions in Southeast Asia.

As further shared by Grab, specific models involved in this partnership will include three nameplates from its Aion sub-brand, specifically the Y, V, and the ES. The Aion ES is a compact EV sedan, while the Aion Y is a compact crossover in the C-segment. The Aion V, on the other hand, is a slightly larger compact crossover. All the aforementioned are five-seater models utilizing a front-wheel-drive layout.
Photo from GrabIn the context of the Philippine setting, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has already approved the introduction of the Grab Taxi Electric - Grab Philippines’ fully electric, on-demand taxi fleet.
In other countries, meanwhile, Grab Singapore’s fleet already consists mainly of EV models and hybrids. Thailand also has a drive-to-own business model for EV TNVS operators, while Grab Indonesia also utilizes over 11,000 EV units as a means of providing sustainable transportation to the country’s urban centers.
All of these, Grab says, contribute to its long-term goal of transitioning to become a low or zero-emission transport provider by 2040.

Aion Y, V, ES in PH
Interestingly, the Aion Y, Aion ES, and Aion V are now sold in the local market. Both the Aion Y and V start at P1.498 million, while the ES starts at P1.358 million.
The Aion V, which was introduced at the 13th Philippines Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), uses a single permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) capable of outputting 221 horsepower (hp) and 240 Newton-meters of torque.

The Aion ES, meanwhile, was launched in the Philippine market alongside the introduction of the Aion brand. Propelling the model is a single PMSM with an output of 201 hp and 225 Nm of torque. Regarding range, it can cover up to 490 km, as indicated by the NEDC.

All three nameplates come standard with a suite of advanced driver assist systems (ADAS), a 14.6-inch infotainment display, regenerative braking, and LED exterior features - among others.
