Geely Icon to bolster company’s lineup in PH?

MANILA: Geely Motor Philippines might expand its lineup with the addition of the Icon. 

Based on homologation papers from the Land Transportation Office, the agency has approved the sale of the Geely Icon Vogue: a subcompact sport utility vehicle (SUV) powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that is capable of reaching top speeds of 180 kilometers per hour — per the documents from the country’s land transport bureau. 

Additionally, the paperwork reveals that it has the following dimensions: 

L x W x H (in millimeters [mm>)	4,442 x 1,860 x 1,770
Wheelbase (in mm)	2,640
Ground clearance (in mm)	190

On that note, Geely Motor Philippines’ upcoming subcompact SUV could face competition from similarly-sized models such as the JAC JS4 and GAC GS3 Emzoom. 

Here, after 6 years 

In 2019, Geely Philippines — which at the time was still under Sojitz G Auto Philippines — published a press release hinting at the possible arrival of the Icon. Six years later, it appears that the compact SUV will finally make its way into the country. 

According to the material (which you can still view here), the Geely Icon is a vehicle that explores the company’s design language and showcases the evolved version of its “Expanding Cosmos” design DNA. 

The brand also noted that its design was conceptualized by Geely’s global studios. The exterior came from Geely Barcelona, while the interior was from Geely California. The final version was done by none other than Geely Shanghai.

Outside, it looks minimalistic but with a busy, “expanding cosmos” grille. The photos in the literature also show the vehicle to have typical SUV appointments like black plastic bumpers, claddings on the wheel arches, and some protective coverings on the bottom of its doors. 

Speaking of which, the model has body-colored door handles and rectangular side mirrors. Its rear echoes the “expanding cosmos” design with taillamps following similar cues. 

The Geely Icon is a model primarily available in China. A dedicated website for the nameplate (which you can check here) reveals the below specifications:

Other notable features include the following:
