GWM Haval H9 teased anew

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Philippines is poised to release the Haval H9 anytime soon. 

Just last month, the local wing of the Chinese automaker has teased on its official Facebook page the arrival of the full-size sport utility vehicle (SUV). 

With the anticipation slowly building, here’s a quick look at what we can expect to see from GWM Philippines’ Haval H9. 

Diesel power 

While most Chinese car brands scurry to bring electrified SUVs to the Philippine market, GWM sticks to the true SUV form by packing the upcoming Haval H9 with a beefy diesel engine. 

To be more specific, the soon-to-be-released GWM Haval H9 will pack a 2.4-liter diesel engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. 

Exact performance figures are not yet out, but since it basically has the same powertrain as the GWM Cannon, the full-size, seven-seater SUV will likely pack the same punch: 

Maximum output	178 horsepower
Peak torque	480 Newton-meters

With the above setup, it can also be assumed that it can achieve a top speed of about 170 kilometers per hour.

Good road presence 

With a full-size SUV body, adopters who will be the first to drive the GWM Haval H9 can enjoy good road presence.  

The vehicle previewed to select members of the motoring media, as well as the one GWM Philippines brought to the Manila International Auto Show 2025, sported a larger-than-life grille flanked by retro-looking, rounded headlamps. 

Onto its sides are a set of 19-inch wheels swathed in 265/55 series tires. The lack of blacked-out claddings on the wheel arches and at the bottom of its doors could be an indicator that it aims to target the upmarket segment. 

It also has a pair of roof rails atop the dome with a panoramic sunroof. 

At the back, is a swing-out door where the spare tire can be mounted, as well as taillamps, and a beefy bumper. 

Of note, the Land Transportation Office has released homologation papers for the nameplate with the following dimensions:

Good tech 

Some level of decent technology is expected from the GWM Haval H9. 

The SUV is currently being sold in Middle Eastern countries as well as in the South American region. There, it is offered with electronic, retracting step boards; a 10.25-inch instrument cluster; a 14.6-inch infotainment system; a 10-speaker sound system; wireless charging; and ventilated seating. 

Leather upholstery also appears to be standard for the model.
