Here is the Denza B8 luxe off-road SUV in 6 pictures

MANILA: Denza Philippines proves that luxury is not confined to the comfort of an urban setting by rolling out the B8 luxe off-road sport utility vehicle (SUV).

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the Denza B8?

The hybrid SUV uses a 2.0-liter ICE engine and two electric motors.
  • How much power does it make?

The Denza B8 makes a combined output of 603 horsepower and 760 Newton-meters of torque.
  • It is positioned as an upmarket seven-seater that is more than capable of taking would-be owners from point A to point B — and conquer everything in between — and still provide them with the luxuries one would expect from a premium automobile.

    Other stories:

Here are some of its notable features:

    Rugged, refined exterior

Outside, the Denza B8 looks rugged yet refined — a design theme typically seen on upmarket European models.

Striking are its headlamps, which use LED technology and have automatic features. These lights flank the SUV’s discreet grille with horizontal slats. Now offering some layer of robustness, while still maintaining prudence, is its lower front bumper, which also gives the model a good approach angle, proven when the author plunged into a makeshift body of water that tested its water wading capacity of approximately 850 millimeters (mm).

Onto its sides are squarish side mirrors, soft-close doors with flush handles, masculine-looking wheel arches with amber-colored reflector accents, claddings on the lower portion of the doors, and blacked-out boxy pillars.

It rides on a set of 20-inch black wheels shod in 275/55 Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires.

At the back, the Denza B8 gets side-opening doors with a door-mounted spare tire with cover. It is bordered by boxy taillamps paired with a third brake lamp integrated on the roof-mounted spoiler.

The rear bumper is as robust-looking and provides a decent departure angle, as evidenced by the smooth descents and ascents undertaken by the hybrid SUV when it was put through the paces at the special course at Aseana Concert Grounds.

    Intelligent interior

Offering the opulence of an upmarket automobile, the Denza B8 packs plenty of niceties that will make one’s time outdoors a pleasant one.

The occupants are welcomed with comfortable seats with Nappa leather. These seats are power adjustable and have a massage function to help the driver and passengers ease back fatigue when stuck in traffic, or maybe just relaxing on their chosen glamping spot.

Despite the rugged terrain with no shortage of potholes to test the capabilities of the SUV, the seats proved to be snug and comfy.

Further, the person sitting behind the leather-upholstered steering wheel with multi-functional controls is treated to a 12.3-inch embedded full LCD instrument cluster, as well as a legible head-up display.

The said screen is accompanied by a larger-than-life 17.3-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A dual wireless charging dock is also present that quickly recharges smartphones and has dedicated vents to prevent overheating.

Other notable amenities include an automatic climate control system with three temperature zones, a negative-ion air purifier, a car refrigerator that can double as a warmer, a digital rearview mirror, and captain’s seats for those sitting in the second row.

    Hybrid powertrain

As we briefly covered above, the Denza B8 uses a hybrid powertrain that consists of a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine and two permanent magnet synchronous motors situated at both the front and rear wheel axles.

The setup has a combined output of 603 horsepower and 760 Newton-meters of torque. With power sent to all four wheels, here is how the horses are broken down:

    Maximum power (front motor)

    268

    Maximum torque (front motor)

    360

    Maximum power (rear motor)

    402

    Maximum torque (rear motor)

    400

With the above numbers, the Denza B8 is capable of zooming from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.8 seconds. In full electric vehicle mode, it has a driving range of up to 115 kilometers.

During the writer’s time behind the wheel, the Denza B8 proved it had more than enough power to conquer the planned obstacles that were thrown our way.

Aiding the driving in such challenges are a suite of advanced driver assist systems, like different drive modes suited for going off the beaten path.
