Hyundai unveils all-new Ioniq V

MANILA: Hyundai Motor Company has launched its Ioniq sub-brand at the Auto China 2026. This was headlined by the debut of the Ioniq V, produced in collaboration with the brand’s local partner, Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC). 

The said vehicle represents Hyundai’s new energy vehicle (NEV) thrust in the Chinese market, driven by a goal of achieving 500,000 units of annual sales. Furthermore, Hyundai’s Chinese arm will launch 20 new models in China over the next five years, comprising battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). 

Notably, the all-new Hyundai Ioniq V presented at Auto China 2026 is nothing like the Ioniq models we’ve seen elsewhere, including in the Philippines. So, what is it offering? Let’s find out here.

Hyundai Ioniq V: vehicle specifications

The all-new Hyundai Ioniq V is a liftback sedan and should not be confused with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is a crossover. Its rivals in China include the BYD Seal and the Tesla Model 3. 

As of its launch, Hyundai’s Chinese arm has yet to disclose the full details of the Ioniq V’s mechanical bits. However, the brand shared that it has a range of over 600 kilometers, as determined by the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). 

Appearance-wise, the Ioniq V has a wedge-shaped front end. Its rear section, on the other hand, comes with a liftback design. This is coupled by hidden door handles, slit-thin LED lighting fixtures, floating side mirrors, and a sloped roofline.

Hyundai has described the Ioniq V’s appearance as the “single-curve silhouette,” and all of its design characteristics are touted to aid the model in terms of aerodynamics.

Inside the vehicle is a tech-rich cabin equipped with a sizeable 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display. This massive screen handles both infotainment and digital gauge-cluster duties, though a head-up display is also available. 

Other noteworthy amenities found inside the Hyundai Ioniq V include, but are not limited to: 

• Ambient lighting system
• Eight-piece Dolby Atmos speaker set
• Voice control

Notably, the huge display positioned on the dash of the Hyundai Ioniq V uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset. This also supports the model’s artificial intelligence assistant and its array of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS).
