In 10 pictures: BYD Cars PH unleashes Sealion 7 performance SUV

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines has rolled out the much-awaited Sealion 7, a performance-oriented sport utility vehicle (SUV) that combines the benefits of electric mobility with the sheer pleasure of driving. 

Key to the capabilities of the newest addition to the Ayala-led car brand’s roster is the use of the reliable BYD Blade battery, a capable electric powertrain, a suite of advanced driver-assist (ADAS) technologies, as well as a combination of modern-looking exterior and comfortable interior. 

Here is a quick look at what customers can expect from the BYD Sealion 7.

Sleek exterior 

Outside, the BYD Sealion 7 offers a simple yet refined exterior. 

At the fore is a clean-looking fascia with air vents just right above the sharp-looking chin, as well as functional air vents on the electric car’s cheeks. Flanking the “BYD” emblem are its light clusters, combining the headlamp assembly with outside lines that make up its daytime running light system. 

Its side profile comes with traditional SUV styling, such as claddings on the wheel arches and on the side sills, as well as blacked-out pillars. The contours on its door panels give it an athletic look, while its set of 20-inch wheels shod in 246/45-series highway tires reinforces its agile stance. 

Also notable are its pop-up door handles. 

Behind is a roof-mounted spoiler that hangs over the decent-sized rear glass. The hands-free power tailgate humps forward and is fitted with a horizontal light bar that connects the two taillamps. The bumper has reflector inserts and flaunts a diffuser-like design. 

Overall, the appeal the BYD Sealion 7 gives is sporty with a dash of elegance. 

Opulent, tech-driven interior 

A lot can be said about the cabin of the BYD Sealion 7. 

To begin with, it looks modern with opulent touches, here and there. The seats have leather upholstery and come with quilting on the backrest. The cushion used gives an ideal blend of stiffness and softness, and promotes a good posture — no matter the driving condition. 

Making long travels more enjoyable is a center armrest, also swathed with leather. 

Occupants sitting at the back will sit on the same material and enjoy additional toys in the form of a pull-down armrest with pop-up cup holders. 

A panoramic sunroof provides the driver and passengers with enough natural lighting, which is useful when finding things inside the car, getting close to nature during countryside roadtrips, or simply good lighting for those in-car selfies. 

In terms of technology, the BYD Sealion 7 gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster past the multi-functional leather-wrapped steering wheel. The rotating infotainment system — measuring 15.6 inches — returns on a BYD car, which also has wireless smartphone connectivity and wireless smartphone charging. 

Audio is set to a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system. It also gets dynamic ambient lighting, dual-zone air conditioning, and USB charging ports. 

Electric powertrain 

Propulsion for the BYD Sealion 7 comes from two electric motors situated on both the front and rear wheel axles. Juice is supplied by a BYD Blade battery rated at 82.56 kilowatt-hours. 

The said setup provides the vehicle with a maximum power output of approximately 522 horsepower and 690 Newton-meters of torque. 

It zooms from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds. Range-wise, it does about 542 kilometers in a single charge. 

When it comes to suspension, the BYD Sealion 7 uses a double wishbone setup at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear. 

Safety 

The BYD Sealion 7 does not compromise on safety, too.
