In 8 pictures: GAC International PH launches Aion UT

MANILA: GAC International Philippines has officially launched the all-new Aion UT for the local market. 

Per GAC’s local arm, the said model is classified as a “compact hatchback,” so it is larger than the likes of the Dongfeng Nammi and the BYD Seagull. As a result, the otherwise smooth and somewhat cutesy-looking ride is said to exude “big car energy,” which hints at what its interior offers to would-be adopters. 

Notably, the GAC Aion UT has already established itself as a smash hit in other regions. As GAC International Philippines shared, it has already seen success in territories such as Thailand, Australia, Europe, and Latin America. 

“We are thrilled to bring another global hit from GAC’s line of innovations to the Philippines through the Aion UT,” Senior Vice President of GAC International Steven Wang said. 

“This milestone allows us to further serve and diversify our brand offerings in the local mobility scene. We are confident that the Aion UT will bolster dynamic, safe, and sustainable driving for Filipinos upon its entry this 2026,” Wang added.

Powertrain

For its powertrain, the all-new GAC Aion UT uses a single electric motor that drives the front wheels. At maximum, the said motor can produce up to 134 horsepower and 145 Newton-meters of torque. 

Its battery, meanwhile, has a capacity of 44.12 kilowatt-hours, which equates to a range of 400 kilometers (km), according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

Similar to many other electric vehicles (EV) in the market, the GAC Aion UT can be used to power external devices through its vehicle-to-load feature. It also supports both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) fast charging. 

When using its DC fast-charger, the model can increase its state-of-charge from 30 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes. 

Ride quality and handling for the newly introduced GAC nameplate is handled by a front MacPherson strut and a torsion beam suspension for the rear. Stopping power, on the other hand, is provided by front and rear disc brakes. 

Exterior

Design-wise, the GAC Aion UT features a sleek body shape with minimal angles and sharp corners. It does have a closed-off grille, just like most EVs, but the only lines visible on its side sections are subtle ones that serve as its wheel arches. 

As mentioned above, the GAC Aion UT is much larger compared to the all-electric subcompact hatchbacks that have risen in popularity in the local market. In fact, it comfortably sits within the smaller side of the “compact” segment.

Notable exterior equipment available to the GAC Aion UT includes rain-sensing wipers, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, a manual tailgate, LED exterior lighting fixtures, automatic headlamp functionality, and a set of 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in Chaoyang tires. 

Interior

Inside the GAC Aion UT is a five-seater layout that was optimized for passenger and cargo space. 

Notably, the car does not come with a front trunk (frunk), but its default cargo capacity (rear seats up) measures 440 liters. This is paired with folding rear seats, which allows for more versatility. This goes with 24 storage compartments spread throughout the cabin.

Additionally, GAC says that the Aion UT can provide up to 905 mm of rear legroom, at least for regular-sized adults. 

Keeping everyone inside the newly-launched GAC nameplate is an automatic air-conditioning system with rear vents. Likewise, the model is equipped with a particulate matter 2.5 filter, a rear cabin armrest, and manual front seat adjustability. 

For the driver, the GAC Aion UT offers the following amenities: 

• 8.88-inch digital gauge
• Electronic parking brake with auto hold
• Leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel
• Front cabin armrest

For on-board entertainment, navigation, and car function control, the GAC Aion UT was equipped with a 14.6-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The said display is connected to a six-piece speaker set, while topping up devices is done via a 12-volt accessory outlet or USB ports. 

Other functions of the Aion UT’s infotainment display include an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity, online navigation, and voice control. 

Safety

As standard, the GAC Aion UT comes with a sizeable collection of passive and active safety features. 

On the passive side, the model was kitted out with dual front airbags, dual front side airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock braking, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a tire pressure monitoring system, traction control, front/rear parking sensors, vehicle dynamics control, hill-hold control, and an anti-theft system - among others. 

The aforementioned are supported by advanced driver-assist systems, which include: 

• Adaptive cruise control
• Integrated cruise assist
• Intelligent high beams
• Forward collision warning
• Automatic emergency braking
• Lane departure warning
• Lane keep assist
• Emergency lane keeping
• Blind spot detection
• Rear collision warning
• Rear cross traffic alert
• Surround view camera

Price

At launch, the GAC Aion UT is offered at an introductory price of P998,000. This is made up of the P50,000-markdown offered until June 30, 2026 and the additional P20,000-cut for the first 400 adopters locally. Its standard pricing, meanwhile, is set at P1.068 million. 

Available color options for the all-new GAC Aion UT include Champs-Elysses Beige, Emerald Green, Rococo White, Seine Silver, and Rococo White + Emerald Green (two-tone).
