GAC to launch Aion UT in PH

MANILA: After being seen at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit, the GAC Aion UT is set to be formally launched in the Philippines this month.

Expected to directly compete against the BYD Dolphin, the upcoming fully electric hatchback is said to be packed with “big car energy.”

In a statement, the Chinese automaker’s local arm said that the upcoming battery electric vehicle offering is ready to bring “fresh new energy to the EV hatchback segment with a driving experience that goes well beyond what its compact footprint suggests.”

Here’s what the vehicle—which is gaining attention in Australia, Thailand, Europe, and Latin America—will bring to the Philippine market.

Per GAC International Philippines, the Aion UT features European-art-and-fashion-inspired “Milanese aesthestics” as expressed by its sleek design philosophy complemented by wink-eye headlights.

The firm also said that the five-seater compact electric hatch offers a 2,750-millimeter wheelbase, flat-folding rear seats, and an intelligently packaged cabin that delivers “openness, comfort, and practicality typically associated with much larger vehicles.”

Further, its electric motor comes with the brand’s proprietary Magazine Battery that can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in as fast as 24 minutes.

Lastly, the incoming GAC Aion UT will have five body color options namely:

• Champs-Elysees Beige
• Emerald Green
• Rococo White
• Seine Silver
• Rococo White/Emerald Green (two-tone)

Abroad, the GAC Aion UT’s mill can deliver up to 201 horsepower and its 60-kilowatt-hour can provide as much as 500 kilometers of fumes-free range (based on New European Driving Cycle standards).

Further, the overseas version boasts regenerative braking and vehicle-to-load features.

Other amenities that are likely to be available in the Philippine-spec version are:

• Dual digital screens (14.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and an 8.8-inch gauge cluster)
• Electronic parking brake
• Drive mode selector
• Front seat ventilation
• Voice control
• Padded front cabin armrest
• Panoramic sunroof
• USB ports
• Wireless smartphone charging pad

In terms of safety, the GAC Aion UT in the global market is outfitted with dual front airbags, dual front side airbags, side curtain airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, an anti-theft system, a tire pressure monitor, and a 360-degree view camera.

The said lineup of safety gear is supported by several advanced driver assist systems, which include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, emergency lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear-cross traffic alert, and intelligent cruise assist.
