JAC Motors Philippines looking to take on the pickup truck segment, to offer T8

MANILA: In the Philippines, the JAC brand is more famous for its lines of trucks—the light, medium and heavy-duty trucks you would constantly come across when you’re in NLEX or SLEX. But JAC Motors Philippines do offer other lineups like sedans, vans, MPV, and SUVs. And now, they are looking to take a bite on the pickup truck segment with the T8.

The JAC T8 is the latest pickup launched by the Chinese automaker that won the Best Intelligent Network Award in China because of its “outstanding product advantages and advanced Internet configuration.” Here in the Philippines, the company has tried entering the pickup segment before when it released a pickup truck last year, the JAC T6. The T8 pickup is an updated version of that—sporting more muscle with more features.

Marketed as an “SUV-level Intelligent Big Pickup,” the JAC T8 boasts a big body—5325mm × 1880mm × 1830mmto be exact. It has a 210 mm ground clearance and 3090 mm and 3380 mm wheelbase for the 1520 mm and 1810 mm truck bed options, respectively.

The front suspension of the T8 pickup has double wishbone and coil spring which you would normally find on higher-end off-road vehicles like the Toyota Prado and Range Rover because it gives more stability, better at suppressing roll, and provides lateral rigidity for when the truck needs to hurdle the off-road.

The exterior design is impressive. The front façade features a trapezoid chrome grille with a bold, red JAC badge at the centre of it. It is flanked by LED headlamps on the top and fog lights at the bottom. The back offers a more muted design with two cubic-looking taillights.

On the side are step boards for ease of entry/exit, while matte black fenders and bed bars give the truck the two-tone look. The truck bed is sprayed with an anti-scratch and corrosion-resistant truck bed liner for durability. The overall style is completed by a set of 18-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in 265/60/R18 tires.

Inside, the JAC T8 offers a luxurious cabin feel with its brown leather seats with a quilted pattern and brown leather accents on the inside trims. It also has a multi-function 3-spoke steering wheel, and an 8-inch HD LCD monitor mounted at the center of the dash.

In terms of safety and security, the T8 specs sheet is equipped with a smart key, push-button starter system, dual front airbags, a panoramic image front camera, 4 radar system, passive safety configuration, active lane departure warning system (LDW), and runs in Bosch 9.1 ESP system.
