Jaecoo 8 to come arrive in PH

MANILAJaecoo’s arm in the Philippines is set to have a two-model lineup once it starts its active operations — hopefully following its debut at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What will power the Philippine-spec Jaecoo 8?

The upcoming J8 will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injected gasoline engine matched to seven-speed wet dual clutch transmission.
  • When will the Jaecoo 8 be officially unveiled?

The Jaecoo Philippine will have its local launch at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show on April 4.
  • This, as the company has just announced that the Jaecoo 8 (J8) — first revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar — will be locally unveiled at the aforementioned motoring event in the country.

So while waiting for the model’s official arrival, here are some details about the vehicle.

    Exterior/interior

The J8 is 4,820 millimeters long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,710 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm and a 717-liter trunk capacity.

Welcoming occupants to the cabin are the “king-size” private sofa seats covered with Nappa leather, matte black suede roof, and faux wood appointments. Other features inside are the 24.6-inch integrated curved screen, a14-speaker Sony surround sound system, and 255-color light waterfall-style rhythm ambient lighting system.

    Performance

Powering the J8 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injected gasoline engine which, on paper, has the capacity to deliver as much as 249 horses and 385 Newton-meters of torque. The aforementioned mill is matched to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.

It comes with an all-road drive intelligent system, a unique vectorial four-wheel drive control system capable of real-time rear-wheel torque distribution from 0-100 percent and dynamic adjustment based on road conditions.

Aside from that, the Jaecoo 8 has seven driving modes (which includes sand, mud, and snow), intelligent wire-controlled braking system, electronic steering system, engine, and transmission.

Further, the J8 is outfitted with a magnetic levitation suspension system.

    Safety

In terms of safety technologies, around 85 percent of the J8’s body is made up of a high-strength steel body that complements its energy-absorbing design and up to 10 airbags.

Pricing and other details are expected to be shared once it formally reaches the Philippine market.
