One of the two concept cars Mazda debuted at JMS 2025 is the Vision X-Coupe, a coupe-like crossover model that is representative of the next evolution of the brand’s “Kodo Soul of Motion” design language.
Appearance-wise, the Mazda Vision X-Coupe concept car is a low-slung, highly aerodynamic ride that is reminiscent of the Japanese car maker’s other concept cars, such as the original Vision Coupe and the Rx-Vision.
On that note, the Vision X-Coupe sports a flowing body style that starts with a pointed but sleek nose and ends with a futuristic-looking rear section that is devoid of sharp cuts and angles.
According to the Hiroshima-based carmaker, the Vision X-Coupe is powered by a plug-in hybrid system that uses two turbocharged rotary-type engines, a battery, and an electric motor. In total, the said powertrain provides a maximum output of 503 horsepower (hp), and a combined total range of up to 800 kilometers (km).
The model is also capable of using Mazda’s carbon-neutral, microalgae-sourced fuel. On the concept, the said fuel is paired with the brand’s in-house developed carbon dioxide capture technology, which Mazda says is capable of reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the more the vehicle is driven.

Mazda Vision X-Compact
Together with the Vision X-Coupe, Mazda debuted the smaller Vision X-Compact hatchback concept at JMS 2025.
The vehicle, which comes in a cutesy subcompact format, dons the same Kodo design language details as its larger brother, while showcasing the brand’s vision for the future of smart mobility.
As Mazda further shared, this concept car is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI), with which users can actually have conversations while riding or driving. The brand, after all, was “designed to deepen the bond between people and cars through fusion of a human sensory digital model and emphatic AI.”
At the moment, the Japanese marque didn’t provide specs for the Vision X-Compact, but the car appears to have LED lighting and a very uniquely styled interior.
Will Mazda ever turn the Vision X-Coupe and the X-Compact into actual production cars? That remains a mystery, for now, so stay tuned.
