J&T Express honors outstanding delivery riders in virtual event

MANILA: J&T Express Philippines has awarded its top three “hero riders” during the “J&T Heroes: Bayani sa Makabagong Panahon” virtual event last July 2.

The awarding ceremony was livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube and was watched by over 190,000 viewers.

According to J&T Express Philippines Vice President Zoe Chi, the event is part of the company’s bayanihan spirit that aims to acknowledge and recognize the delivery riders’ hard work, dedication, and contributions on the field.

“They have shown valor, creativity, ingenuity, and resilience in every parcel delivered. We are honored to have them in our J&T family. May you continue to serve as inspirations to every person you meet on the road,” Chi stated.

Edison Awa, a J&T delivery rider based in Muntinlupa, was named as the J&T Hero of the Year. Awa has been serving as a delivery rider for J&T Express for two years now. According to his branch manager, he is able to deliver 100 to 300 packages in a day, for five or sometimes six days a week.

In a statement, Awa said, “Lahat naman kami deserve na maging J&T Hero. Napakahalaga po ng delivery riders kasi kami ang nagdadala ng pangunahing pangangailan ng mga tao sa panahon na takot pa silang lumabas. Kahit natatakot para sa sarili, tinataas ko na lang sa Diyos ang aking kaligtasan para hindi bumigay sa hamon ng buhay  (All of us deserve to be named as J&T Hero. The role delivery rider is very significant in these times since we are the ones who deliver the basic needs to the customers who are not yet confident to go out. Even though our welfare is also at stake, I just ask for the Lord’s guidance to keep me safe so I can still be able to face the challenges in my life).”

Aside from being a breadwinner of his family of four, Awa also supports his aging parents and siblings in the province. He used to rely on uncertain jobs in construction and agencies, but now that he works as a J&T delivery rider, Awa is able to earn a steady income. “Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa J&T. Ang mensahe ko sa aking co-riders, kahit gaano kahirap ang trabaho sa araw-araw, kahit gaano karami, isipin na ginagawa natin ito para sa ating mahal sa buhay (I am very grateful to J&T. To my co-riders, no matter how hard our daily work is, just keep in mind that we are doing this for our loved ones),” Awa added.

As the J&T Hero of the Year, Awa took home a brand-new motorcycle and a smartphone.

Daryl Ocenar from Tacloban won the second place, while Ricky Frias from Taguig took the third spot. They also received smartphones, wireless earphones, P5,000 worth of gift certificates, and an action camera. Other finalists, which include Raniel Pawilan from Quezon City, Russel Agullo from Makati City, Alan Guillen from Cebu City, and Jecel Beniga from Davao City, also received gift certificates and special items from J&T Express.

The virtual event was hosted by actor Xian Lim. Former Tawag ng Tanghalan contestant Gigi de Lana, together with the GG Vibes Band, performed in the event. Special messages of support from local leaders including Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Cebu Mayor Edgardo Labella, Jaen, Nueva Ecija Mayor Sylvia Austria, and Cabanatuan Mayor Myca Vergara were also presented.

The J&T Heroes: Bayani sa Makabagong Panahon virtual event was made possible through Hino, Foton Motors Philippines, Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Realme, Prestone Philippines, Clorox Philippines, Gcash, Shopee, and Pocari Sweat, in cooperation with Belo Essentials, Gfoxx International, Elite Sales, Tink Custom Print, Seek Shine, Organic Skin, K-Cool, Leupp Watches, Kumu, and Jane Secret.
