J&T Express PH supports GK relief efforts for typhoon-affected families in Bicol

MANILA: Following the massive impact of Typhoon Ulysses on different areas in the country particularly in Luzon, J&T Express Philippines organized its logistics network to offer free support to the “Operation Walang Iwanan” of Gawad Kalinga last November 26.  

Based from the report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the tropical typhoon has impacted more than three million Filipinos, as it caused immense flooding that left more than 70,000 families stranded in numerous evacuation centers in Luzon.

J&T Vice President Zoe Chi said, “The country had enough on its hands because of the pandemic, with many Filipinos struggling to find new ways of making a living, then all of a sudden, things got much worse when the typhoon hit. It’s only right that all of us who can, should pitch in to help our fellow countrymen.”

According to Chi, the active courier service operating with more than 500 branches across the country and is well-known for effectively providing support to hard-to-reach and remote areas, perceived that its existing logistics group is capable to provide continuous relief to the typhoon-affected families.

About six tons worth of relief goods were brought from the head office of J&T in Mandaluyong City to Bicol in order to provide aid to the displaced typhoon victims. The relief goods included tablets, baby kits and sandals, more than 500 clothing packs, 775 food relief packs, and 250 boxes of bottled water, all worth almost P1 million.

Chi said, “Part of our mission at J&T is to help strengthen our regional partners. In business, this means supporting the growth of vendors found in the farthest reaches of the Philippines with our digital logistics network. However, in times of crisis, it also means using what we have to extend help as far as possible. We believe in the spirit of bayanihan, and that means everyone has a role to play.”
