Lexus holds world premiere of LFA Concept

MANILA: Lexus has debuted the LFA Concept, which joined the stage together with Toyota Gazoo Racing’s newly revealed GR GT and GR GT3 V8-powered sports cars. Unlike the two TGR models, however, the Lexus LFA Concept is a battery electric vehicle.

Per Lexus, the LFA Concept retains the core principles that underpin the ongoing development of TGR’s eight-cylinder high-performance rides - it also boasts a low-slung all-aluminum chassis, providing it with a lower center of gravity, which is touted to provide an enjoyable and engaging drive. 

For now, Toyota Motor Corporation's luxury vehicle arm has yet to reveal the powertrain details of the LFA Concept, but it received a refined-looking exterior and an “immersive” driving-oriented cockpit. 

With regard to how it looks, the latest Lexus BEV concept car is a two-door model that wears a long hood and a flowing nose-to-rear silhouette similar to the one presented by the now-discontinued V10-powered Lexus LFA. The aforementioned, as the brand shared, retains the proportions of a classic coupe, while refining it further into what the marque has described as the “new ideal form of a sports car.”

Inside the Lexus LFA Concept is a cockpit that was designed to provide a “sense of car-driver unity.” 

For starters, the concept’s steering wheel comes in a yoke-type design, which Lexus argues eliminates the need for regripping or repositioning one’s hand during steering operation. Furthermore, the model comes with an optimized control panel layout that is touted for intuitive use. 

Yes, it has a lot of digital screens, but its main driving controls (drive mode selector and gear selector) come in physical, knob-type designs attached within, or in close proximity to, the yoke steering wheel. 

Lexus also revealed the size figures of the LFA Concept (see table below), which indicates that it is slightly larger compared to the pre-production Toyota GR GT.

For now, Lexus has not disclosed whether and when the LFA Concept will be turned into a production vehicle. Otherwise, it is representative of the brand’s sentiment of preserving the value of sports cars for the next generation to enjoy.
