Limited run Subaru TC380 only for Japan

MANILA: Subaru is working on a more powerful WRX STI, which would be a limited run model. However, it is to be noted that this new and powerful version won’t be making its way into the Philippines market or anywhere else globally, except for its home country Japan.

This new Subaru is based on the chassis of the current generation WRX STI and is officially known as the VAB WRX STI. However, it does make a lot more power since it is specially built and tuned in collaboration with HKS and Toshihiro Arai, Subaru’s rally driver.

In a glance, it looks very similar to the standard WRX STI that is seen plying on the road currently. However, when viewed closely, it is very different than the standard version. There is a new unique front spoiler done in carbon fibre that helps to reduce the resistance of the air. At the rear end, there is just a TC380 badging.

Inside the cabin of this special edition model, there is a “TC380” badging on the dashboard. Plus, there is also a serial plate just beneath the shifter. Also, new Recaro SR-6 seats replace the one seen on the WRX STI. The new seats also have the TC380 embroidery done in the centre.

Mechanically, there is a modified version of the EJ20 2.0-litre, of which, the modifications were picked by Toshihiro Arai. Moreover, the standard turbocharger has been replaced with an HKS GTIII system that is responsible for increasing both the power and torque. However, the power figures haven’t been revealed yet, though there are high chances that it may be capable of making 380 horsepower considering the name. Power would be sent down to all the wheels via a 6-speed manual.

 

The powerful TC380 will be limited to just 50 units on its run and has been priced at JPY 4,965,840 (Japanese Yen), which roughly amounts to a little over Php 2,000,000.
