Mitsubishi’s Triton, Xforce, Delica gets recognition in Japan for unique design concepts

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation received the Good Design Award 2023 from Japan Institute of Design Promotion for its three new models.

The Mitsubishi Triton (known locally as Strada), Xforce, and Delica Mini were recognized for their outstanding design concepts that provide reliability and excitement.

Based on the Beast Mode design concept, the Triton exudes a commanding presence that conveys the toughness and strength needed for a pickup truck and the ruggedness and agility typical of a Mitsubishi vehicle. The interior of this one-ton pickup truck was designed with functionality for business use in mind.

“This pickup is targeted mainly at the ASEAN and Latin America markets. As a partner for work and leisure in these areas, it requires a power not found in passenger vehicles and a sense of fun that sets it apart from other commercial vehicles,” the Good Design Award 2023 jury commented.

Meanwhile, the Xforce is based on the Silky and Solid design concept. This compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) provides comfort and practicality, featuring a roomy cabin and versatile storage spaces. It features a modern yet authentic SUV styling and an exquisite interior with cutting-edge vibe.

The jury commended how the Xforce’s powerful front and rear fenders give a sense of massiveness despite its compact size. They also acknowledged the clever combination of colors, materials, and finishes on the interior. The jury was also impressed by the use of a hexagon motif in the overall vehicle design, as it provides a sense of unity.

Another Good Design Award 2023 winner is the Delica Mini, which features a Daily Adventure design theme. This kei-car has an SUV-like style, a spacious interior, and a powerful driving performance. Its practical cabin is perfect for  both outdoor and everyday use.

“The exterior design gives the impression of a sturdy tool, firm and powerful, but at the same time succeeds in conveying a sense of affability, especially with the ring-shaped headlights with cut-out tops. The body color also shows ingenuity, successfully combining a modern look with a boldness that evokes a sense of adventure. The interior design is also well matched to the exterior, giving a clean, sturdy impression, while the window surrounds, which incorporate the exterior color, also convey playfulness,” the jury stated.

Mitsubishi has been committed to create truly unique designs based on its core values of dynamic strength, robustness, and functionality. This is demonstrated by the recognition received by its three new models for expressing the brand’s design philosophy through their individual styles.
