On top of adding personnel and installing new traffic signs, MMDA said that its traffic management interventions involve the following measures:
- Replacement of the concrete barriers with 20 plastic barriers
- Relocation and reconfiguration of U-turn slots in coordination with the concerned local government units within the area
- Traffic signal adjustments on the signalized intersection of Sumulong Highway-Marcos Highway
MMDA conducted a joint inspection with representatives from various government agencies and local government units (LGU) that have jurisdiction on Marcos Highway.
“We are now implementing the necessary interventions to ensure smoother traffic flow along Marcos Highway. Part of these efforts are the installation of additional traffic signages, deployment of additional personnel, and close coordination with the concerned LGUs,” MMDA Chairman Attorney Don Artes was quoted as saying.
Artes also said that during the said inspection, the composite team was able to assess key intersections, U-turn slots, loading and unloading zones, and major access points along the stretch of Marcos Highway.
The evaluation allowed the agency to pinpoint operational bottlenecks, observe vehicular flow patterns, and identify safety concerns affecting both motorists and pedestrians.

No mall-wide sales?
While many shoppers look forward to promos and sales rolled out by malls during the festive season, Artes noted that MMDA will request concerned LGUs to ask mall owners to refrain from conducting mall-wide sales during peak periods as heavy commercial activity brings about heavy vehicle volume.
Artes clarified that the bench is not stopping malls from staging promotional activities such as sales, but want them to cooperate in managing traffic.
“We are not prohibiting malls from conducting per store sales. What we are emphasizing is cooperation — especially in managing the surge of shoppers which directly impacts traffic,” the MMDA boss explained.
“Traffic inevitably becomes heavier during weekends, so coordination is crucial. We need to synchronize traffic adjustments immediately with the LGUs,” he added.
According to data from MMDA, an average of 270,000 vehicles ply along Marcos Highway every day.
