MyToyota mobile app suffers data breach

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has recently experienced a data security incident that affected some registered MyToyota mobile app users.

In a statement, TMP President Masando Hashimoto explained that the  unauthorized disclosure of the customer information involved an “unintentional human error and concerns the confidentiality of the data of the affected customers.” The incident has already been reported to the National Privacy Commission since May 14.

While the incident covers certain sensitive personal information, the company president assured that no data regarding financial transactions have been breached.

“We continue to investigate security issues and cooperate with the appropriate government authorities. Rest assured that we will continue to update the affected customers on the progress of this probe,” he said.

“Meanwhile, we remind all registered MyToyota users to be vigilant and cautious of potential privacy harms due to said incident,” the TMP helm added, and apologized for the inconvenience to customers.

Meanwhile, he also said that the company continuously puts up additional safeguards to keep customer data secure and avoid similar incidents in the future.
