Nissan and Mitsubishi’s EV Production Joint Venture Reach 50K Milestone

MANILA: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, and NMKV Co., Ltd. released a statement announcing that a total of 50,000 units of the Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi eK X EV had been produced since production began around a year ago.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the key features of Nissan Sakura?

The Nissan Sakura has a 4.8-meter turning radius, spacious interior, cutting-edge lithium-ion battery, ample driving range, and ProPILOT.
  • What are the key features of Mitsubishi eK X EV?

The Mitsubishi eK X EV comes with Grip Control, MI-PILOT parking support system, large-capacity drive battery, and a spacious and comfortable cabin.
  • These electric mini vehicles are manufactured at Mitsubishi Motors' Mizushima Plant in Okayama Prefecture, Japan.

The Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi eK X EV is being envisioned, produced, and handled by NMKV, a joint venture between Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Both models bagged the 2022-2023 Japan Car of the Year Award, RJC Car of the Year Award, and Japan Automotive Hall of Fame (JAHFA) Car of the Year Award.

The two fully electric mini vehicles have also received high praise for being the ideal means of transportation in the era of decarbonization in Japan.

By bringing together Nissan's cutting-edge electric vehicle production technologies and Mitsubishi Motors' electric mini vehicle production technologies that were developed through the creation of the i-MiEV, the world's first mass-produced electric vehicle, as well as the Minicab MiEV, these two groundbreaking electric vehicle manufacturers were able to produce EV units at this scale while maintaining high production quality and cost competitiveness.

The Nissan Sakura raises the bar for the mini-vehicle class. With its 4.8-meter turning radius and nimble handling, drivers can easily perform sharp turns.

The Nissan Sakura is the ideal vehicle for daily driving because it is designed with a spacious interior and an ample driving range. The Nissan Sakura is also equipped with a cutting-edge lithium-ion battery with proven performance and reliability.

The Nissan Sakura also comes standard with ProPILOT Park, an automated system developed to make parking easier and driving more enjoyable.

On the other hand, the Mitsubishi eK X EV guarantees peace of mind in every drive in any weather or road condition.

The Mitsubishi eK X EV is equipped with Grip Control that aids the driver in braking on slippery surfaces.

The Mitsubishi eK X EV is the first Mitsubishi model to come with the MI-PILOT parking support system, which can automatically detect potential parking positions and manage parallel, forward, or backward parking.

Its large-capacity drive battery can also serve as a reliable source of electricity through V2L and V2H. Just like the Nissan Sakura, the Mitsubishi eK X EV offers a spacious and comfortable cabin.

More improvements to the Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi eK X EV are being developed by NMKV for their customers in Japan.
