Nissan hybrid aka “e-POWER” vehicles to arrive soon
MANILA: Nissan has already announced that the Philippine and Thai masses will be able to get their hands on an all-electric Leaf by the year 2020. At the Nissan Futures event that was held in Hong Kong, Mr.
Yutaka Sanada, Nissan Regional Senior Vice President, Nissan Motor Asia & Oceania confirmed the news himself. However, the winds circulation carry a lot more information than expected, and we hope to see more electric vehicles by Nissan in the region very soon.
Nissan has cited that alongside an all-electric Leaf, the manufacturer will also be introducing some e-POWER vehicles in the region. In case you don't know about the e-POWER tech, it is a kind of hybrid powertrain exclusive to Nissan vehicles.
The system comprises an internal combustion engine for the sole purpose of charging the batteries which power the electric motor. As a result, one gets an electric vehicle without the fuss of charging it again and again.
Later in 2019, Serena e-POWER will be the first vehicle of its kind to debut in the region with Singapore as the launchpad. We expect the Serena e-POWER to be available in the whole Asia and Oceania region. However, Nissan has not made any official statement regarding the same. Once the Serena e-POWER hits the roads here, the next Nissan vehicles making way to the region should be the Note e-Power, the production model of IMQ Concept, and others.
Sanada also said, “e-Power, we believe, is the most pragmatic step towards electrification. In addition to introducing electrified mobility, Nissan is working on making them more accessible through electrification components assembly and localization in key Southeast Asian markets”.
However, the possibilities of Filipino masses getting a Serena e-POWER are slim due to the fact that the car is a right-hand-drive model. We hope Nissan launches the likes of Note e-POWER and the production model of the IMQ Concept in the Philippines, though. With Nissan’s plans to 'electrify one-fourth of its sales volume' in the region, all-electric and e-POWER models should be making their way to the sphere very soon.
