President Marcos Jr. orders regulation on ‘protocol’ license plates

MANILA: In its bid to curb its unauthorized use, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the regulation of protocol license plates to government officials.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Who are the allowed government officials to use the protocol plates under Executive Order 56?

The government officials who can have the low-numbered license plates are the President; Vice President; Senate President; Speaker of the House of Representatives; Supreme Court Chief Justice; Cabinet Secretaries; Senators; Members of the House of Representatives; Associate Justices of the Supreme Court; Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) Court of Tax Appeals (CTA), and Sandiganbayan; Solicitor General; Chairpersons of Constitutional Commissions and Ombudsman; as well as the Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff and Philippine National Police Chief.
  • How long can government officials use the protocol plates?

The protocol plates may be used only within the officials’ incumbency.
  • Under Executive Order 56 (issued last March 25), the country’s chief executive cited specific government officials who are authorized to use the low-number license plates.
