Sedans are here to stay, 2020 Volkswagen Passat teased

MANILA: We have been saying this for long, the time for the sedans ain’t over yet. Although Volkswagen is sure set to shift away from ICE (internal combustion engines) to other technologies soon, they love the sedans just as much. So, we will be seeing sedans coming from Wolfsburg for quite some time now.

With unveiling set to take place in the year 2019, the first design renders of the 2020 Volkswagen Passat have been revealed. Going by the renders, the Jetta and the Arteon seem to the vehicles where the new Passat seems to be taking its design cues from. Featuring the similar front grille and the headlamps with edgy touches, the new Passat looks much more sporty and muscular. There is also a blacked-out trim piece for enhancing the looks and the corner ait-intakes are, big. With a shorter deck and a longer hood, the 2020 Passat looks bigger than the current sedan, which will eliminate the calm and executive looks, all for good.

Looking from the sides, the new Passat features a roofline similar to that of Arteon. The taillamps at the rear have also been provided with some minor tweaks. The show stealer though is the quad exhaust outlets. The 2020 Passat with new design language will, however, continue to be underpinned by the same PQ46 platform that it rides on now. MQB, the new platform which also features an AWD will not be brought to the sedan as it would not have been a wise decision keeping in mind the decreasing interest in the segment.

Leave aside the platform, the 2020 Volkswagen Passat will certainly bring a lot of new features and set of technologies along with some top-notch driver aiding systems. Before the German automaker officially unveils the sedan in 2019, we all have a lot to speculate and imagine about what will be on offer on the final product.
