‘Tanggal Bulok, Tanggal Usok’ versus PUJs implemented
MANILA: Just days after the resumption of traditional PUJ (public utility jeep) operations, the I-ACT (Inter-Agency Council for Traffic) has started the ‘Tanggal Bulok, Tanggal Usok’ campaign (campaign versus dilapidated PUJs and those which are smoke belching).

The agency aims to ensure that with 6,002 traditional PUJs plying 49 rationalized routes, only roadworthy units with legitimate QR codes are rendering transportation services for the safety of the general public.

During random inspections conducted yesterday in Malabon, traditional PUJs underwent smoke emissions testing using on-site opacimeters. Each unit was also thoroughly inspected, from tires, headlights, taillights, brakes, and other components to determine its roadworthiness.
I-ACT is composed of Team Eagle under the leadership of Commander Col. Ceferino Decena (Ret.), and Team Barracuda headed by Commander Col. Rosendo Borja (Ret.), in cooperation with members of the Philippine Coast Guard, Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group, Armed Forces of the Philippines-Joint Task Force, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
This initiative aims to fulfill the tenets of Republic Act 8749 or the Clean Air Act and the PUV (public utility vehicle) Modernization Program of the DOTr (Department of Transportation) which is to remove run-down, defective jeeps with high emissions as it places the lives of its passengers in danger while also negatively affecting the environment.
