Toyota Motor North America reports 17.9% sales dip in June

MANILA: Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) recorded 170,155 units in vehicle sales in the US last June, a decrease of 17.9% on a volume basis and 21.1% on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis compared to the same month last year. Electric vehicle sales in June 2022 totaled 39,965, or 23.5% of total monthly sales.

For the first half of 2022, TMNA reported US sales of 1,045,697 units, a decrease of 19.1% in volume and 19.6% in DSR. A total of 266,413 electric vehicles were sold during the first half of the year, or 25.5% of year-to-date sales.

Toyota reported vehicle sales of 147,495 in June, a decrease of 18.3% in volume and 21.5% in DSR. For the first half of 2022, Toyota posted sales of 914,609 units, a 19.4% volume decline and a 19.9% DSR decline.

Lexus reported vehicle sales of 22,660 in June, down 15.2% on a volume basis and 18.4% on a DSR basis. For the first half of 2022,  Lexus posted sales of 131,088 units, a decrease of 16.9% in volume and 17.4% in DSR.

TMNA's digital retail sales of new vehicles through its SmartPath and Monogram platforms have topped 125,000 at nearly 230 dealers. An additional 105 dealers will be operational on both platforms by the fourth quarter of 2022.

In a statement, TMNA Executive Vice President for Sales Jack Hollis said, “Despite the ongoing inventory challenges, so far this year, we launched a number of highly anticipated new products, including the Toyota battery electric bZ4X, Tundra, and hybrid Tundra, and the Lexus LX, while continuing to closely focus on taking care of our customers. Later this year, customers can expect even more electrified, refreshed and limited-edition Toyota and Lexus products that fit their lifestyles, all with the safety, quality and fun-to-drive features expected from us.”
