Toyota-owned marques yield more than 7-M units globally from Jan.-Aug. 2026

MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation (which covers Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu, Hino) has sold a total of 7,135,785 units worldwide from January-August 2026. This is equivalent to a 3.7 percent decline, continuing the brand’s streak of year-on-year slumps, now in its seventh month. 

Sales within its home country in the first eight months of the year totaled 1,423,770 units. A total of 5,712,015 vehicles were delivered to owners worldwide during the same timeframe. 

In August 2026, alone, the Japanese company sold 832,618 units globally - likewise a decrease from the brand’s global monthly sales for July 2026, which hit 912,683 units. 

Moving on to electrified vehicles, Toyota’s global sales for January-August 2026 reached 3,616,595 units, representing a 10.3 percent year-on-year increase. The brand’s hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) nameplates accounted for the lion’s share of the aforementioned figure, with 3,093,426 units sold.

For reference, the examples in the marque’s HEV lineup include the Toyota Ativ HEV, Corolla Cross, RAV4, and Zenix Q HEV. 

Interestingly, Toyota’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales, which tallied at 267,649 - a small figure compared to its HEV global sales for the said period- chalk up to a whopping 128.7 percent year-on-year increase. 

If one has kept up with automotive industry trends, Toyota is currently on a warpath when it comes to all-electric mobility. This is evident from Toyota Motor Philippines, which now has an all-electric lineup that includes models such as the Urban Cruiser and bZ4X. Lexus Philippines likewise has boosted its offerings with the ES 350e and the RZ. 

Concerning worldwide production numbers, Toyota made a total of 7,222,594 units from January-August 2026. During the same period, production in Japan totaled 2,736,087 units, while factories around the world produced a total of 4,486,507 units in the first eight months of 2026. 

In August 2026, the conglomerate rolled out 776,393 units globally. This is the second consecutive month in which its worldwide production has fallen. For reference, its worldwide production figure for July 2026 tallied at 935,022 units. 

Toyota: PH in context

In connection with the Philippine market, Toyota Motor Philippines is still the market leader by a wide margin.

Specifically, Toyota’s Philippine arm sold 133,300 units from January-August 2026. The aforementioned figure was published by the latest report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Incorporated (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA). 

For the same period, Toyota Motor Philippines was also the market leader for HEV cars in the local market with 14,819 units sold.
