Why did Toyota suspend production in Japan?
Toyota had do pause production in Japan after an issue with its supplier Kojima Industries, a report said. What caused problem in the supplier?
Kojima Industries was reportedly hit by cyberattack.According to a New York Times (NYT) report, Toyota was forced to suspend production after automotive components manufacturer Kojima Industries encountered a problem with its computer systems.
The problem disrupted Toyota's ordering systems, and the Japanese government determined the problem was caused by a cyberattack on Kojima, the report added.
The carmaker decided to shut down its computer network to prevent the issue from spreading to customers, a company spokesman was quoted as saying in the report.

Like many carmakers, Toyota had to cut production after the COVID-19 pandemic affected global supply chains and led to shortage of semiconductors and other components.
For March 2022, Toyota's original production target for March 2022 has been lowered by 100,000 units to 950,000.
The NYT report added that despite these problems, the carmaker has used "lessons learned during a 2011 earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan to adjust to the pandemic’s disruptions better than its competitors."
