Toyota to launch 10 xEV models in Asia by 2028

Tokyo, Japan: Toyota plans to introduce more than 10 additional electrified vehicle models (xEV) in Asia in the next three years.

Toyota Motor Asia Chief Executive Officer Masahiko Maeda divulged such a goal in a press briefing prior to the Japan Mobility Show 2025.

Such a target — which continues to push for a multi-pathway strategy towards green mobility in the region — is part of its “30 by 30 Mission” wherein the firm eyes to retail 30 percent of its xEV units across ASEAN region by 2030.

Maeda shared that such push could result to Toyota experiencing xEV sales to be more than 1.5 million units by 2030 — reducing eight million tons of carbon dioxide (equivalent to what 25 million trees can do).

It was during the same event that the company disclosed that two new battery electric vehicles (BEV) will come out in Southeast Asia within the next few months.

Per Toyota, part of its multi-pathway strategy in Asia is the expansion of hybrid electric vehicle roster with the launching of the Yaris Ativ and the start of production BEV units in Indonesia and Thailand.

Further, Toyota noted that biofuel trials have started in the Global South as well as hydrogen refueling station demonstrations in Asia.
