Toyota unveils all-new Land Cruiser “FJ”

MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation has taken the covers off the all-new Land Cruiser FJ. It stands as the follow-up to the popular FJ Cruiser, which the company produced until 2022. 

For now, the company showcased prototypes for the aforementioned model, with a launch for the Japanese market slates for mid-2026. 

Like its predecessor, the 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ sports a box-shaped body and mechanical components that ensures off-road capability. 

Powertrain, chassis

Under the hood of the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is the 2.7-liter 2TR-FE engine paired with a part-time four-wheel-drive system, and the Japanese brand’s six-speed Super Electronic Controlled Transmission (ECT). At maximum, Toyota says that the powertrain can generate up to 160 horsepower (hp) and 246 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

Its exact suspension setup has yet to be revealed by the Aichi-headquartered car maker, but boasts a turning radius of 5.5 meters due to its relatively short wheelbase of 2,580 millimeters (mm).

It was also shared that it uses a platform derives from the Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform, which is used by current locally-available models such as the Toyota Hilux, Fortuner, Tamaraw, and Innova.

Styling, other features

As mentioned, the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser FJ wears a boxy body reminiscent of other Land Cruiser nameplates from yesteryears. 

Based on the pictures shared by Toyota, the said model comes with very short overhangs and a generously spacious ground clearance. Additionally, the model comes with beefy front and rear bumpers that wrap around seamlessly towards its sides to transition as chunky fender flares. 

Further more, the model seems to come with LED headlamps and added protection underneath. Toyota likewise shared that its corner bumpers are removable to provide easy repairability. 

To note, Toyota's prototypes for the Land Cruiser FJ has rectangular headlamps for the Japan version. Comparatively, the overseas version that was also unveiled comes with choice customizations and a pair of round headlamps. 

The interior of the all-new Land Cruiser FJ, on the other hand, appears to be utilitarian. Sure, the model will come fitted with modern amenities like digital displays, but it looks like it has physical buttons for air-conditioning, as well as a hand-operated parking brake. 

Toyota also stated that it was designed to provide users “instant recognition” for ease to use. All controls were likewise positioned for minimal eye movement. 

For safety, the model will also get the Toyota Safety Sense, which includes a pre-collsion safety system. 

As mentioned, the Japanese manufacturer has not shared the full features list of the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, so let’s wait until it officially launches next year. Additionally, the model will also make an appearance at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025, which is set from October 39 -November 9, 2025. 

And with all of that said, hopefully it will reach the Philippine market eventually as well.
