Uber Redefines Daily Commute With Carpooling Service
MANILA: The growing traffic in metropolitan areas is certainly growing to be a menace for both authorities and commuters in the Philippines. Despite of the increasing automotive sales, which has been a good news for motorists and automotive manufacturers in the country, the increasing traffic and commute time is major problem. The country surely isn’t in a dearth of transport services, as the metropolitan areas have plenty of options for public commute such as taxis, jeepneys, buses, light rail and commuter trains. Nevertheless, more vehicle sales means more cars on the roads leading to traffic jams and congestions in crowded areas. The highly renowned private taxi and cab company Uber Transportation has finally presented a novel solution for this by offering a carpool service for the Philippine commuters.
Named aptly as UberPOOL, this service operates similar to a carpool, where the passengers must pay a small fare to compensate for the vehicle’s running cost (i.e. fuel expenses). This means that reaching your work on time is not only more convenient but will also cost you a much lower amount of money than other options. The service was launched by the company with the first vehicle being unleashed on Manila roads at 6.00 am today. The launch was done by Uber Philippines’ General Manager Mr. Laurence Cua, who made the news official at the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) headquarters, with open support from the authorities. This not only makes the UberPool the cheapest taxi service, but also surpasses the affordable UberX service with the rates as low as 25%. To book a pool cab, one simply needs to access the phone application and click on UberPool service and choose how many people you want to share your ride with.
A maximum of 3 passengers can share a particular cab, which makes up for a more affordable and effective way of getting around town. According to Mr. Cua, this service will also help reduce the number of cars on the streets and hopefully counter the increasing traffic congestions, which amount to around Php 2.4 million worth of losses for the government. Additionally this unique service by Uber Transportation will also help reduce the daily CO2 emissions caused by numerous traffic congestions and reducing carbon footprint. This will surely take 5-10 mins extra than your regular cab service, but will certainly be worth the wait in wake of a cheaper fare and hassle free commute.
