VinFast flexes Lac Hong 900 LX armored car, custom VF9

MANILA: At an event commemorating Vietnam’s National Day, VinFast showcased the armored Lac Hong 900 LX luxury vehicle, as well as several custom-made VF 9 units. Produced with the help of Canada-based Inkas, the VinFast Lac Hong 900 LX is protected by European-spec VPAM VR7 ballistic armor. According to Inkas, the said vehicle armor is capable of protecting against standard military rounds such as 7.62x51 and 5.56x45 calibers. It likewise has resistance to certain types of grenades. 

The aforementioned armoring, VinFast claims, is a standard requirement for presidential cars around the world. And to prove its effectiveness, the Vietnamese automotive firm has previously sent an example to Beshussamt Ulm in Germany to undergo 440 bullet shots and 11 explosive tests.

With regard to its appearance, the Lac Hong 900 LX is an imposing-looking sport utility vehicle adorned with uniquely Vietnamese touches. Its grille, for example, was inspired by bamboo. Its interior also boasts a combination of wood and leather, specifically Golden Nanmu and Nappa, respectively. 

Apart from the unique luxury touches, the cabin of the fully armored ride vastly resembles the one inside the VinFast VF 9 - save for the four-seater arrangement with a closed-off rear cabin.

No exact mechanical specifications were provided by the Vietnamese marque, but it was implied that the Lac Hong 900 LX is an extended wheelbase version of the VF 9.

Custom VinFast VF 9 units

For Vietnam’s 80th anniversary of National Day, VinFast provided the country’s Ministry of Public Security with four examples of a custom-made open-top VF 9. According to the brand, the said vehicles demonstrate the flexibility of its production methods. 

To build the ceremonial open-top VF 9, VinFast had to remove the roof, as well as multiple window pillars. It was likewise provided with a custom paint job, a redesigned grille, and heavy alterations to its interior and electrical system. 

Apart from the open-top units, the brand also gave the Vietnamese Traffic Police a total of 12 custom VF 9 units colored in white. The aforementioned also had custom elements such as a new grille with horizontal bars and a redesigned hood. And of course, the patrol-spec rides were also given standard police equipment such as flag mounts, sirens, and additional lights. 

VinFast VF 9 in PH

In the Philippine market, the VinFast VF 9 starts at P5.39 million. It is classed as a full-size SUV with a three-row (six occupants) seating arrangement. 

At maximum, the Philippine-spec VF 9 is capable of producing up to 402 horsepower. It also has a range of 602 kilometers, according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). 

Key features of the VF 9 include an all-wheel-drive system, direct current (DC) fast charging, leather upholstery, and a 15.6-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
