Honda Civic Type R takes final bow in PH

MANILA: Chances of getting a a brand-new Honda Civic Type R in the Philippines is getting slimmer by the moment as the model is now down to its last few units.

Marking the end of an era, Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) said that it is proud to celebrate the legacy of the Civic Type R locally as the famed nameplate’s current version (FL5) will soon conclude its official run in the country.

With that, customers are encouraged to secure a unit as early as possible.

“The brand believes its impact on culture and the countless memories created behind its wheel will endure for years to come. HCPI does not view this as a goodbye, but a celebration of an unforgettable era. The Type R brand remains and HCPI is looking forward to whatever iteration it may be in the future,” the company noted in a statement.

In recent history, the fifth-generation Honda Civic Type R made its local debut at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show wherein an initial 100 units were made available for the Philippine market — all of which were spoken for within 48 hours upon the announcement of availability.

HCPI then brought in the model’s spruced-up iteration in 2021 where it has been equipped with Honda SENSING, improved brakes, and new body color options.

Finally, the current-generation offering was unveiled in early 2023.

Vehicle specifications

Powering the vehicle is a 16-valve, in-line four-cylinder, double overhead cam, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with variable valve timing and lift electronic control (VTEC) that can dish out:

Power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.

It also comes with a rev match control system, active sound control, active exhaust valve systems and four drive modes (+R, Sport, Comfort, Individual).

Ensuring the car’s stability and controllability are:

Suspensions	Dual Axis Strut (front) and multi-link (rear) with Adaptive Damper System
Brakes	Brembo 350mm Ventilated Disc-type (front) and 305mm Disc-type (rear) with electronic parking brake system

Since it boasts the Honda SENSING suite of technologies, the Honda Civic Type R offers the following:

• Lane Keeping Assist System
• Road Departure Mitigation
• Forward Collision Warning
• Lane Departure Warning
• Auto High Beam

Its exterior features include:

• 19-inch matte black wheels

• Rear diffuser

On the other hand, its nifty creatures are:

• Type R bucket seats
• Three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara leather
• 10.2-inch full-color instrument cluster

Available in Championship White and Racing Blue colors, the current-generation Honda Civic Type R is priced at P3.87 million.
