Refreshed Porsche Macan to receive more tech

MANILA: Porsche shall equip the Macan with more assistive system and digital features for the next model year.

Per the Stuttgart-headquartered marque, the new technologies for the upcoming all-electric offering will focus on increased convenience when parking; charging and towing; new entertainment functions as well as smarter operation via app or voice input.

Porsche shared that the innovation is eyed to bring user experience for the driver and passengers to a new level.

Here are the updates that will become available in the next Porsche Macan.

According to Porsche, the new energy vehicle will come with an optional Surround View assistance system including Active Parking Support.

This will be made up of four high-resolution cameras that cover a 360-degree view of the car’s surroundings, as well as a cross-traffic view for added convenience and a more expansive view when maneuvering.

Aside from that, its parking assistance system will be expanded to include several functions that offer added convenience, especially in narrow or awkward spaces such as:

• Transparent bonnet: Uses the front and exterior mirror cameras to provide a virtual view of the area in front of the vehicle via the central display
• Trained Parking: this feature can learn individual parking routines and perform them automatically. After a one-time manual operation, the vehicle recognizes a familiar environment and offers to take over the parking maneuver — with the driver remaining in control. This system can save up to five different parking routines.
• Reversing Assist: Allows the car to automatically reverse along a route it has previously driven forwards. The system memorizes routes of up to 50 meters in length and offers safe, automated reversing, with the driver needing only to monitor the maneuver.

The forthcoming new Porsche Macan will also have Comfort Access wherein drivers can do following to their vehicle iPhone, Apple Watch, or compatible Android devices:

• Automatically unlock or lock
• Start their vehicle

This features leverages on near field communication, Bluetooth Low Energy, and ultra-wideband. Users can still use their car key in Apple Wallet or a native wallet app on Android to access and start their vehicle, even if the smartphone needs to be charged.

Owners can also share car keys in Apple Wallet or a native wallet app on Android through Apple Mail, Messages, WhatsApp, and more, with up to seven other users, and vehicle owners can also decide whether the shared users are able to simply gain access to their vehicle or additionally have the ability to drive it.

Additionally, the Porsche Digital Key and My Porsche App — which will require the Porsche Connect package — give users access to the trunk conveniently.

For its in-car entertainment, the Porsche Macan’s new model year update will further utilize the use of the App Center — both when stationary (during charging breaks) and driving.

In the model’s updated iteration, games from Gameloft and Obscure Interactive shall be available and can be controlled via touchscreen, Bluetooth controller, or smartphone.

The optional passenger display will also allow the simultaneous usage of apps even while driving — without distracting the driver.

Further, the Porsche Macan will also have the Voice Pilot feature. Utilizing various language models, the system understands complex, interrelated questions and recognizes what a statement is referring to.

Lastly, the all-electric Porsche Macan’s towing capacity has increased for all-wheel-drive models by 500 kilograms to 2,500 kilograms. Depending on the market, this increase can also be retroactively enabled for vehicles that have already been delivered to customers.

Alongside the new technological revisions, the vehicle will have an expanded range with regards to personalization options. This will include varying door sill guards and LED door courtesy lights.

It will also have an optimized Porsche Charging Planner so that customers can prioritize or specifically exclude individual charging stations and providers.

Per Porsche, the refreshed Macan will have its launch by the end of the year.

Relatedly, PGA Cars — importer of Porsche vehicles in the Philippines — has yet to announce any plans of bringing in the Macan’s updated version.

To recall, the company brought in the electrified vehicle in January this year.
