Volkswagen to launch all-new Amarok premium pickup this year

MANILA: The new Volkswagen Amarok will be released on the global market this year with a slew of new features. There are several driver assistance systems that are new in this class and will make everyday driving much more pleasant. Futhermore, the new “wolf” will have even better off-road capabilities than previous generations, thanks to increased ground clearance and new convenience features.

The Amarok is powered by a V6-TDI engine. This will not only satisfy existing Amarok fans, but will also attract new customers for the premium pickup. The new Amarok features sporty and more defined looks and delivers plenty of towing power and torque. In addition, the interior’s premium feel has been significantly enhanced.

The Amarok sets a new standard for pickups in the global one-ton B-segment, with its comfort, operating concept, connectivity, and ambience in the redesigned interior.

In a statement, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Design Head Albert-Johann Kirzinger said, “We emphasize the different, expressive front designs of our pickup with a charismatic Amarok signature that is also found with very large letters on the cargo box at the rear and is sported very proudly by the Amarok. The styling bar as a visual extension of the double cab in the cargo box once again gives the Amarok’s body dynamic, aerodynamic and very strong proportions.”

The Amarok’s exterior length has increased by 10cm to 5.35m, and its body will be broader than the current model. This may be seen in the second row, where there is more legroom.

Since 2010, the Volkswagen Amarok has been in series production. Its name comes from the language of Inuit North America and means “wolf.” Customers have been delighted by the second generation, which comes standard with a V6 diesel engine, since 2016. In the last 12 years, over 815,000 Amarok units have been sold. The latest iteration of the premium pickup, designed by teams in Australia and Europe, will be manufactured in Silverton, South Africa.

We still don't have a VW pickup in the Philippines, but we're certainly looking forward to having the Amarok here — eventually. Agree?
