LTO conducts probe on BOSS Ironman Challenge Mindanao Cup 2026

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to call on the organizers of the BOSS Ironman Challenge Mindanao Cup 2026 following numerous footages and photos of accidents circulating in social media.

In a statement, the government agency said that a show cause order will be issued to the BMW Owners’ Society of Safe Riders (BOSS) as based on reviews of the viral videos and images, several traffic violations were allegedly committed.

These include overspeeding, use of unauthorized vehicle accessories and modifications, illegal blinkers, failure to stop at red lights and disregard for road signs, including mandatory stop signs and lane markers.

Per LTO, the alleged breaching of Republic Act 4136 (also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code) “contributed to the serious incidents” during the event — which took place on January 31-February 1 General Santos City.

The agency noted that among the serious tragedies that happened in two separate collisions resulted in the deaths of a seven-year-old child, and an participant event.

“Following initial assessment of the social media content, LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) launched preliminary investigations to verify the allegations and gather additional evidence. Once concluded, the Show Cause Order will be formally issued to the organizers.”

With this, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao issued a statement. It  reads:

“The heartbreaking footage we saw circulating online is a stark reminder that road safety is non-negotiable – every life on our roads matters, especially the most vulnerable among us like children. Private motor vehicle events must never come at the cost of innocent lives. Under Republic Act No. 4136, organizers have a legal and moral obligation to ensure compliance with traffic laws and prioritize safety for all. We will hold accountable those responsible, and this case sends a clear message: compliance is mandatory, and safety must be at the core of all event planning and execution.”

Meanwhile, a  BOSS Ironman Motorcycle Challenge Facebook page post said that prior to the commencement of the ride, organizers “conducted a comprehensive inspection and technical scrutiny of all motorcycles and riding gear to ensure full compliance with safety standards and to promote the highest level of safety throughout the event.”

Aside from that, participants were also “reminded to strictly adhere to all established rules and regulations and to continuously prioritize safety throughout the ride, ensuring the safety of fellow riders as well as the general public, as endurance, discipline, and safety are the hallmarks of a true Iron Man.”

Relatedly, known motorcycle safety advocate and retired Colonel Bonifacio Bosita aired his concern in his official Facebook page. 

“Why do the organizers of the BOSS Ironman Motorcycle Challenge seem to feel no remorse for what they do repeatedly? Do they make a lot of money from this event?” he said.

“We asked that because if the organizers feel guilty about every event like this where people die and families are left orphaned - why don't they stop?” Bosita added. 

“The victims and bereaved families are the losers in this - not the Organizers and their successful participants!” he concluded.
