Moto riders have until July 19 to install barrier
MANILA: Install motorcycle barriers by 19 July 2020. That is the deadline given the JTF COVID Shield (Joint Task Force COVID Shield) to motorcycle owners/riders who can accommodate their significant other as a passenger.
Riders may choose between the prototype design from Bohol governor Arthur Yap or the approved barrier design by ride-hailing firm Angkas.

The PNP (Philippine National Police) has been notified to alert all personnel at quarantine checkpoint regarding the grace period for installation set until July 19 and that full implementation of the policy will be on July 20.
The installation period was agreed upon during a consultation between the JTF COVID Shield, PNP-HPG (PNP Highway Patrol Group) director Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz, MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) general manager Jojo Garcia, and Angkas chief transport advocate George Royeca.

“As per Secretary of the Interior and Local Government and NTF against Covid-19 Vice Chairman Eduardo Año, we will continue monitoring and warning those without barrier while citing or apprehending those with other violations,” said JTF COVID Shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.
The Angkas model weighs approximately one kilo and is worn by the motorcycle driver. Governor Yap’s design is mounted directly on the motorcycle.
Rider and passenger must present proof at checkpoints that they are married or live together such as having the same last name, a marriage contract, or at least the same residence address on their IDs.
“The set of rules for motorcycle back-riding is a balance between safety and the necessity of transportation. Our motorists have long requested for this and now that it was finally granted, please do not abuse it,” added Eleazar.
