Yamaha start producing electrically-assisted bike components in Europe

MANILA: Yamaha Motor Company has commenced the production of electrically power-assisted bicycle drive units in Europe.

Per the Japanese motorcycle brand, its manufacturing subsidiary Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Europe began manufacturing the aforementioned components in France. The said drive units will be sold in the European market.

“This initiative is part of Yamaha Motors’ efforts to expand the scale of its electrically power-assisted bicycle business, which has been identified as a growth area in the company’s Medium-Term Management Plan,” the company wrote in a press statement.

Named the PW-S2, the electrically power-assisted bicycle drive unit is well-known for its lightweight yet powerful assistance. Versatile and adaptable, the bicycle component can cater to diverse needs: from daily commutes and urban exploration to even conquering mountain trails.

Since 2022, Yamaha has supplied Japanese-made PW-S2 components to European bicycle manufacturers. By producing the electrically power-assisted bicycle drive unit in France, Yamaha will not only further streamline logistics but also significantly reduce lead times.

Yamaha aims to further expand its business in the European market, which is expected to continue growing, by increasing the drive unit production capacity.
