TVS Motor PH previews King EV Max 3-wheeler, Orbiter scooter

MANILA: Apart from introducing the refreshed version of the iQube, TVS Motor Philippines also previewed the upcoming Orbiter all-electric scooter and the fully electric King EV Max three-wheeler. 

The two models were shown off at the recently concluded Wheeltek 50th Anniversary Exhibition together with the new TVS iQube S 3.5. 

For now, TVS’ local arm has yet to publish the Philippine market specs of these models, but do be aware that they will be launched soon. 

So, what are they offering to prospective adopters? To answer this, let us take a look at the specifications and features of their Indian market counterparts.

TVS King EV Max

For its powertrain, the Indian market version of the TVS King EV Max uses a single permanent-magnet synchronous motor paired with a 9.2-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. The aforementioned provides the model with an output of 14 horsepower and 40 Newton-meters of torque. It also has a range of 179 kilometers from a single full charge. 

According to the TVS Motor official website, the King EV Max can be topped up from zero to 80 percent in just two hours and 15 minutes. 

Moreover, the model is capable of reaching a top speed of 60 kilometers per hour (kph). It also has a water wading depth of 500 millimeters (mm). 

Size-wise, the model is 2,780 mm long and 1,800 tall. It also has a ground clearance (unladen) of 185 mm and a wheelbase length of 2000 mm. 

Other notable features of the TVS King EV Max three-wheeler include, but are not limited to: 

• Selectable drive modes (Eco, City, Power)
• 120/80 R 12 6 PR Radial tubeless tires
• LED headlamp
• Front and rear drum brakes
• Fully digital gauge cluster

TVS Orbiter

The other model that was previewed for the local market is the TVS Orbiter. Like the iQube, it is an all-electric two-wheeler that comes in a scooter form factor. It has hyper-modern styling cues, lots of color options, and a compact size that makes it ideal for in-city rides. 

Propelling the Indian market version of the TVS Orbiter is a brushless, hub-mounted electric motor that produces up to 3.4 horsepower and 30 Newton-meters of torque. The higher-spec V2 variant for the Indian market, with its 3.1 kWh battery, offers a range of 158 km. Charging the model with a 650-watt charger can take its battery from 0 to 80 percent in 4 hours and 10 minutes. 

In terms of dimensions, the Orbiter is 1,855 mm long, 728 mm wide, and 1,284 mm high. It also has a seat height of 760 mm and a ground clearance of 165 mm.

• 34-liter underseat cargo space
• Cruise control
• Hill-hold assist
• Reverse parking assist
• USB charging port
• Eco and City drive modes
• Fully digital gauge cluster

Pricing speculation

As mentioned above, TVS Motor Philippines has yet to publish the pricing for the Orbiter and King EV Max for the local market. 

But if we had to guess, the Orbiter could be a slightly more affordable alternative to the iQube. The aforementioned, after all, has a bit more range. 

On the one hand, the only model that we can benchmark as a competitor for the TVS King EV Max is the recently launched Bajaj Wego, which retails at P329,888. If the upcoming TVS three-wheeler nameplate can go below that, then it may become a more appealing option for Filipinos who are known to be very price-conscious. 

Do take note, however, that the Bajaj Wego offers more range than the TVS King EV Max - this means a larger battery. For reference, it can cover up to 200 km from a single full charge.
