Drivers have access to a 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a multi-function steering wheel that is wrapped in leather.

For entertainment and information accessibility, this SUV features a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment display that offers a BMW Connected Package Professional as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto among others. Its infotainment is linked to a Harman Kardon sound system, which delivers high-quality acoustics around the cabin. It also comes with a wireless charging tray for increased functionality and convenience.

Aside from these, its seats with Veganza perforated upholstery are plush and supportive even on longer-distance trips. The front row is a nice place to be in, while the second row is roomy for two individuals. However, because of a pretty bulky tunnel and an elevated floor, the middle seat in the second row would be more suitable for kids or smaller passengers. To compensate for its limited second row space, this SUV offers an expansive room for your cargo at the back.

For starters, the BMW iX1 measures 4,500 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width, and 1,642 mm in height. This all-electric SUV comes with a 2,690-mm wheelbase and a 170-mm ground clearance.

From the outside, the BMW iX1 exudes immense confidence and elegance wherever it goes, overshadowing the fact that it is one of the most affordable EVs in the local lineup. It flaunts a classy, bold-looking facade, enhanced by BMW’s iconic kidney grille with a diamond-like pattern and illuminated by slim adaptive LED headlights with high beam assistance. Its closed-off kidney grille emphasizes its new-gen identity on the road.

On the sides, its sport activity vehicle frame is very evident. Its silhouette is defined by a stylish combination of satin aluminum lines and gloss black finishes. In addition, its flush door handles also add a hypermodern touch to its overall side profile. This SUV runs on a very elegant-looking set of 18-inch Style 866 bicolour aerodynamic wheels. 

Meanwhile, trailing behind this vehicle at night is very enjoyable thanks to its three-dimensional LED L-shaped tail lights with a hexagonal pattern. For a more luxurious vibe and enhanced convenience, this SUV also comes with an automatic tailgate. Overall, the iX1 adopted some design cues from its diesel-powered counterpart, while incorporating more modern elements that look very stylish and premium.

The BMW iX1 utilizes a suspension combination of a MacPherson Strut at the front and a Torsion Beam at the rear. For its size, this EV feels light to maneuver and handles really well when hitting turns or corners. Its suspension offers just the right balance of softness and firmness on the road. In the city, it can effectively absorb bumps and other road imperfections, leading to a comfortable and pleasant riding experience for all occupants.

The BMW iX1 is powered by a single electric motor that produces a maximum power output of 204 PS and a maximum torque of 247 Nm. Its motor is powered by a 64.8-kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP range of up to 473 km. Using a DC fast charger, its battery can be charged up to 80% in just 29 minutes. This SUV utilizes a front-wheel drivetrain and comes mated to a single-speed automatic transmission system.

On paper, its performance metrics might not look the most exciting in its segment, but this EV is surprisingly very peppy and smooth for its size. It has enough power and torque to allow it to effectively overtake on the highway. However, due to its limited range, it might be better to meticulously plan ahead before bringing this SUV on your long-distance out-of-town trips with family and friends. All things considered, it would be better to drive this inside the city where there are plenty of charging stations available. 

In terms of safety, the iX1 is equipped with BMW’s Active Park Distance Control, parking assistant, reversing assistant, lateral parking aid, rain sensor and automatic driving lights control, a tire pressure monitoring system, performance control, cruise control with braking function, and a rear view camera. 

It is also equipped with multiple advanced driving assistance systems such as front collision warning, lane control assistant, rear cross traffic alert, and blindspot monitoring among others.This SUV utilizes ventilated discs for both front and rear braking. 

In my opinion, the BMW iX1 is a great way to enter the world of luxury EVs. It is feature-packed, city-friendly, and just an enjoyment to drive overall. Increasing its driving range would arguably enhance its competitiveness within the local market moving forward.
