One of the most iconic sports cars in the history of automobiles across the world is the Nissan GT-R. This name has earned some serious amount of recognition and reputation for itself. Commonly known as Godzilla, the Nissan GT-R is one model which has made its reputation as supercar slayer. It has shaken up the segment with its scorching performance and low price tag, thus making it your everyday supercar. The Nissan GT-R for the Philippines, just like in every other global market where it has its presence, is being offered with the famous 3.6 litre twin-turbo petrol motor ( the only option), and is available in Katsura Orange, Vibrant Red, Pearl Black, Ultimate Silver, Gun Metallic, Pearl White, and Pearl Blue color options.

Interior & Features

On the inside, the Nissan GT-R comes with customisable color option, ranging from all black to walnut brown and red with black inserts. It is purely up to the choice of one in which theme he wants his car. The overall layout of the cabin looks functional and everything in the car looks and feels ergonomic to use, which is not a case with every other supercar. However, considering the time it has been in existence, the overall cabin layout feels a bit dated now.

The three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in leather feels nice to use, however, we would have like to see a flat-bottom unit, which is now available in cheap mass-oriented cars. The overdose use of round theme in the cabin might not be to everyone’s liking, but then, they are legible to read while driving the car in towering speeds.

The centre console looks slightly archaic and unappealing, with the high mounted touchscreen infotainment system, complemented with the sound system from BOSE, integrated with performance dials as well. These dials keep a track on the ongoing performance with some really interesting data related to engine working displayed while on the go. The lower positioned AC vents and buttons for climate control look dated, however, the use of carbon fiber on the transmission tunnel adds some drama to the cabin. The cabin comes loaded with all the modern comfort and convenience features one expects from a luxury car or a sportscar.

Talking about the interior space, the cabin feels ergonomic, with much easier ingress and egress as compared to other supercars. The car gets a 2+2 seating layout, with the rear seats best reserved for kids.

The overall design of the Nissan GT-R has remained almost unchanged in all these years, which though makes a small dent in its overall desirability. However, the sharp and aggressive design language is timeless and does manage to make the heads turn even today.

At the front, the Nissan GT-R comes with an inverted trapezoidal front grille, which in its latest avatar, gets a subtle looking chrome garnish at the upper portion in a V-shape design. The restyled air dams in the front bumper as well as vertically stretched backwards headlamps with projector units and LED daytime running lamps do add some aggressiveness to the supercar when viewed from the front.

From the sides, not much has changed in the profile of the Nissan GT-R. The only significant change being the new black colored 20-inch alloy wheels. The grey colored underbody skirting, along with the sloping roofline, still make the car look distinctive and fresh.

At the rear, the Nissan GT-R’s iconic quad circular LED tail lamps are unmistakable, and make the supercar look recognizable even from a far distance. Adding some more pizzazz to the rear profile of the car are the massive boot mounted spoiler with stop lamp and four exhaust pipes, with underbody skirting playing its fair share of making the car look sporty here as well.

Ride & Handling

Supercars are not always all about engine performance and the sound they make, but also the way they handle too is a strong and decisive point. It is here the Nissan GT-R fully complements its wonderful powertrain. The Nissan GT-R comes with Double Wishbone with Aluminum (forged) Upper Links and Lower Arms at the front and Multilink with Aluminum (forged) Upper Links at the rear.  The suspension setup gets Normal Spring Rate stabilizer at the front and Bilstein Adaptive DampTronic shock absorbers at both front and rear. All these together make the overall driving dynamics of the supercar very engaging. Even the Brembo braking system with radially mounted callipers at both front and rear, play a fair role in bringing the car from towering speeds to halt with accuracy and ease.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Nissan GT-R sources its power from the now-iconic 3.6-litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine. This mill is purely handmade from start till end and comes engraved with the name of the engineer and lineman who assembled it. This engine might be smaller than most of the higher-specced European supercars, however, thanks to twin turbocharging, the engine offers mind-boggling performance. It produces a maximum power output of 570 PS and peak torque output of 633 Nm.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Further, the car gets three driving modes, as well as paddle shifters for that seamless and precise feel at higher speeds.

Braking & Safety

With great power comes great responsibility, which is why, to complement with its hyper performance the supercar comes equipped with safety features. In its safety kit are included - front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera and proximity radar with obstacle detection. However, the Nissan GT-R misses out on a number of sophisticated electronic driving aids which its European counterparts get, which is a big miss.

In this day and age of an overuse of styling elements and electronic driving aids, the Nissan GT-R feels archaic, as the basic design in and out has remained very much unchanged in all these years. However, for those who prefer functionality over form, the Nissan GT-R, with its performance on tap and the precision in driving dynamics, makes a very strong case for itself, which cannot be ignored a bit.

I am a proud owner of the Nissan GT-R in rust colour. This car has given me everything from speed, performance to looks. The beauty of this sports car lies in the fact that it concentrates more on giving a power packed drive rather than unnecessary cosmetic features.
