About Tata Philippines
An Indian automobile company, the Tata Motors Limited (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company) was inaugurated and founded at the dawn of World War II. The brainchild of Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata, the brand came to be one of the best and the most loved commercial vehicle manufacturer.
However, it was not these commercial vehicles that Tata limited itself to. In the year 1991, Tata ventured into passenger car manufacturing with Daimler-Benz as their partner. It was due to this joint-venture that Tata released its very first passenger car, the Tata Sierra. While the Sierra was not able to reach the heart of consumers, it was in 1998 when Tata introduced the Indica which went on to have a different place in the heart of the consumer.
With the improvement in its manufacturing build and its management, the brand managed to gather a customer base with its marketing strategy. With its newly acquired customer base and improved market performances, Tata managed to acquire Daewoo’s bus manufacturing unit in 2004. Later in 2005, the brand also managed to acquire 21% of the Spanish coach maker Hispano Carrocera’s shares, thereby improving and expanding its bus and truck manufacturing.
Apart from making its name in the field of commercial vehicles, Tata added the feathers to its cap when it was successful in acquiring two of Britain’s most prominent automakers, Land Rover and Jaguar in 2007 and 2008 respectively. This specific move allowed Tata to earn the tag of global recognition and it also started to be known as one of the rising and most powerful automakers in the industry.
Tata made its Philippine debut at the 10th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). The brand set foot in the country under the dealership of Taj Autogroup. At the time of introduction, Tata had its initial line-up with passenger cars like the Vista, Indigo, Manza, and the Indica. Additionally, the brand also has an array of commercial vehicles like the Xenon and the Ace, with its more robust version, the Super Ace.
