TVS Max4R Design
TVS has designed the Max 4R 125 keeping only one thing in mind – to keep it as basic as possible in order to keep the costs in check and to fit the bill of a common layman who wants a motorcycle for commercial purposes.
With this single aim, the TVS Max 4R 125 turns out to be a tad too basic motorcycle to look at. The round headlamp at the front with a chrome surround makes the front fascia look like as if it belongs to a motorcycle from the previous generation. Even the chrome front fender looks too simple attempt.
From the side, the Max 4R 125 retains its basic appeal with a simply designed curvy fuel tank. Thankfully, the bold graphics on the fuel tank make it look livelier. Even the side body panels with body decals look large and try hard to hide the basic overall appeal of the motorcycle.
Much like on any other entry level commuter motorcycle, the Max 4R 125 loses out on proper rear side body panels, which here are replaced by large tubular pillion grab rail. The almost flat split seats are not only functional, but try to enhance the utilitarian appeal, as the pillion seat can be removed to make space for load carriage.
At the rear, the Max 4R 125 comes with a very basic looking tail lamp with round turn indicators. The presence of the chromed heat shield on the exhaust pipe is a nice touch otherwise. The two-pod instrument console goes with the basic theme of the overall motorcycle, and houses just analog speedometer and odometer. To make things convenient, the Max 4R 125 has been equipped with a USB charger and an electric starter. The round rear view mirrors are basic in design, but provide good rear visibility.
Max4R Ride & Handling
The TVS Max 4R 125 comes fitted with a very basic suspension setup of hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic coil springs at the rear. The suspension, tuned on a softer side has good load carrying capabilities, making it a perfect motorcycle for commercial purposes. The tyres and brakes, however, are quite basic with spoke wheels, skinny tyres and drum brakes at both the ends, in order to keep the production costs low.
TVS Max4R Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering this basic warhorse from TVS, the Max 4R 125, is a tried and tested four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, carbureted, 124.53cc engine, which also powers the other 125cc motorcycles from TVS on the global level.
The engine, mated to a standard 4-speed gearbox, is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 11 PS and a peak torque output of 10.8 Nm. These figures make the Max 4R 125 quite powerful for load carrying

duties and quick commutes.
Max4R Braking & Safety
Being an entry-level cost-conscious commuter motorcycle, the TVS Max 4R 125 misses out on a whole lot of safety features, which is an understandable fact. However, a front disc brake could have been a welcome feature.
TVS Max4R Verdict
To start with, the TVS Max 4R 125 is not a motorcycle you would aspire to buy if you want a motorcycle to keep up with the current modern trends. It has a very basic appeal when it comes to design, with very functional looking body panels and overall looks trying to highlight its ‘function over form’ theme.
However, while it looks boring, its performance from the 125cc engine is quite quick, considering its brilliant power-to-weight ratio for a commuter motorcycle of this segment. At the same time, the overall ride quality, even with the presence of basic mechanicals is spot on.
