KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the price of the upcoming Suzuki e-Vitara?
The Suzuki e-Vitara will retail at P2.02 million. What is the range of the Suzuki e-Vitara?
The Suzuki e-Vitara can cover up to 475 kilometers from a single full charge. As of this writing, the said vehicle has not been released for the local market, but it does have some noteworthy qualities that may be enticing for those looking for a brand-new electric vehicle (EV).
So, what are the reasons to be excited for the upcoming Suzuki e-Vitara? Let’s find out here.
Peppy powertrain
One reason to be excited for the upcoming Suzuki e-Vitara is its powertrain. Specifically, it uses a single-motor unit connected to a 61-kilowatt lithium iron phosphate battery and a single-speed electric drive transmission. At maximum, this setup can deliver up to 171 horsepower and 193 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque to the model’s front wheels.
The aforementioned figures don’t make the e-Vitara the most powerful in its segment, but its range of 475 kilometers (New European Driving Cycle) is an attractive prospect for those wanting to use the Suzuki-made EV as a daily driver or as an occasional road trip chariot.
Photo by Cesar Guiderone MiguelHaving that amount of range to work with means that you don’t need to charge every day, especially if you use the ride, let’s say, for example, commuting within Davao City or Cebu City to your job.
Additionally, the vehicle comes with CCS2 and Type 2 charging ports, with direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) charge modes, respectively. These are key points for the e-Vitara, as they are used as the standard by most local EV charging providers.
Regarding charge rate, the model is also pretty quick, with an estimated charge time of just 45 minutes from 10-80 percent battery levels. Altogether, this means less downtime and more time for its users to go their merry way.
Other relevant mechanical details of the Suzuki e-Vitara include front and rear disc brakes, a MacPherson strut front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension, selectable drive modes (eco, normal, and sport), as well as the “Easy Pedal” mode.
Photo by Cesar Guiderone MiguelNotably, the Easy Pedal mode of the Suzuki e-Vitara is a form of one-pedal driving. This allows a user to regulate the vehicle's speed via accelerator pedal inputs only. Suzuki does not say whether it can bring the car to a full stop, but being able to slow down without constantly riding the brake pedal might help stave off driver fatigue.

A plethora of on-board safety gear, creature comforts
Judging by how it looked at the 10th PIMS and its spec sheet, it is clear that Suzuki didn’t scrimp on features for the e-Vitara.
For its safety gear, the model’s centerpiece is the Heartect-e platform. This, according to the Japanese marque, was produced using high-tensile-strength materials, resulting in a balanced ride that absorbs impacts to protect its battery, high-voltage components, and occupants.
Photo by Cesar Guiderone MiguelAdditionally, the model comes with the Suzuki Safety Support suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS). These include multi-collision braking, dual-sensor brake support II (camera- and radar-based object detection), lane departure prevention, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive high beams.
Its passive array of safety gear, meanwhile, includes, but is not limited to:
- Anti-lock braking
- Electronic stability program
- 360-degree view camera
- Dual front airbags
- Side airbags
- Curtain airbags
- Knee airbag (driver)
- ISOFIX
- Occupant detection
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Engine immobilizer
- Hill-hold control
On the comfort side of things, the Suzuki e-Vitara has a well-arranged cabin fitted with leather upholstery and a noteworthy number of soft-touch surfaces. These go together with a single-zone automatic climate control system, a 40:20:40 split-fold rear seat, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, ambient lighting, and a glass roof with sunshades.
Photo by Cesar Guiderone MiguelSpecific to the e-Vitara’s driver is a leather steering wheel, electronic parking brake, a 10.25-inch digital gauge, a dial-type shifter, and a keyless system - among others.
Handling the all-electric model’s on-board entertainment and navigation is a 10.1-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Further, it comes with plenty of Type-A and Type-C USB ports, as well as a wireless smartphone charging pad.
Plenty to like on the outside
While the Suzuki e-Vitara shares a platform with the Toyota Urban Cruiser, it does manage to present a unique identity.
From the side, both EV crossovers share roughly the same silhouette, but the e-Vitara gets a significantly heftier-looking front fascia. The aforementioned was accomplished by a bulgy lower bumper with more black-colored parts and angular details than its Toyota-made cousin.
Photo by Cesar Guiderone MiguelBut even with all the comparisons between these two, the entire platform itself is quite easy on the eyes. Simply put, the e-Vitara looks more rugged and “outdoorsy” than many other EV models on the market.
Apart from looking great, the Suzuki e-Vitara also offers many useful exterior features. It comes with full LED lighting with automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, and a set of 18-inch wheels.
Final thoughts
As far as on-paper specs go, the Suzuki e-Vitara ticks a lot of boxes. It has a lot of range, decent power, plenty of features, and it’s a good-looking ride too.
Then again, if there’s anything that will hamper the e-Vitara, it will be its price. Sure, it is a smidge more affordable than the Toyota Urban Cruiser, but there are plenty of other options from newer brands in the market right now that go for a whole lot less. On the one hand, Suzuki has been at it for years now and has more than proven itself in the past when it comes to the compact crossover segment.
