While relatively new to the Philippines market, Lynk & Co now has a very varied lineup of models competing in a multitude of segments. For the All-electric crossover market, it has the 02 - a five-seater nameplate, which the company says was designed to meet the needs and demands of the modern urbanite. 

The Lynk & Co 02, however, has several competitors in the market. Sure, the crossover electric vehicle (EV) niche isn’t quite as large as of this writing, but it is growing, as evidenced by the impending entry of the Geely EX5. So, what are these competitors and what are they offering? 

We’ll find out here, but before anything else, let’s have a summary of the Lynk & Co 02’s specifications and features. 

Lynk & Co 02

Appearance-wise, the Lynk & Co 02 comes with a very stylized take on the crossover formula. It still dons the familiar high-riding roof, a relatively large greenhouse, and a generous amount of ground clearance, but the 02 is rich with sharp edges and angular details. 

For starters, its pointed nose is flanked by a pair of “Dynamic Day Rays” LED daytime running lamps, while its quadrilateral headlamps are tucked just above its shapely front bumper. Over towards the rear, it utilizes the brand’s “Megacity Horizon” rear spoiler, which comes integrated with the vehicle’s taillights. The lower rear portion, meanwhile, is capped by a chunky bumper. 

From the side, the model tones down the sharp angles in favor of a sleek silhouette. The aforementioned is achieved by its flush door handles and its flat wheel arches. Up top, the 02 comes with a black-colored roof as well. 

Rounding up the exterior of the Lynk & Co 02 is a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, power-folding side mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, frameless windows, a power tailgate, and a front trunk. 

Inside, the 02 offers ample space for up to five occupants. Its seats are clad in leather, and all are kept cool by an automatic air-conditioning system with rear vents. 

Additionally, the mood inside the cabin is enhanced by an ambient lighting system. On-board entertainment, on the other hand, is ensured by a 15.4-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

Other notable interior features of the Lynk & Co 02 include, but are not limited to, the following:

For ride safety, the crossover EV comes with automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring - among others. 

Propelling the Lynk & Co 02 is a permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with a lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt battery. The model is rear-wheel-drive, and it can produce up to 268 horsepower (hp) and 343 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

With a full charge, the Lynk & Co 02 can cover up to 435 kilometers (km), according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). It also has a vehicle-to-load feature, direct current (DC) CCS2 fast charging, and alternating current (AC) charging.

As of this writing, pricing for the Lynk & Co 02 starts at P1.788 million. 

BYD Atto 3

One of the most significant rivals of the Lynk & Co 02 is the BYD Atto 3. Currently, the BYD-made crossover EV has a price of P1.598 million for the entry-level Dynamic trim, and P1.798 million for the top-spec Premium trim. 

Instead of opting for a unique appearance, the BYD Atto 3 features a more conservative, yet elegant exterior design. Up front, the model comes with a pair of upswept LED headlamp clusters straddling a metallic bar bearing the BYD logo. Down below, in and around the lower bumper, are sizable air vents for cooling, as well as additional styling details. 

From the side and rear, the model features the typical crossover silhouette. Otherwise, it has a decent amount of character lines and useful bits such as power-folding side mirrors, roof rails, a power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and a rear windshield defogger. 

Completing the appearance of the BYD Atto 3 is a set of 18-inch alloy wheels (Premium), as well as a roof-mounted rear spoiler. 

Like its rivals, the BYD Atto 3 can comfortably seat up to five occupants. Everyone inside the model is kept comfortable by an automatic air-conditioning system equipped with a particulate matter 2.5 filter and an air-quality monitoring system. 

Mood inside the model is kept light and fun thanks to the presence of an ambient lighting system. Moreover, all of its seats are clad in leather, with the ones on the front offering power-adjustability. The second row, meanwhile, also gets 60:40 split-folding functionality for optimizing interior space. 

For the BYD Atto 3’s onboard entertainment and navigation needs, it uses a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen (Premium) with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Topping up devices inside the car is also done easily thanks to USB ports and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Sound, meanwhile, is outputted by a Dirac eight-speaker system, at least for the top-of-the-line Premium variant.

As expected from a modern crossover, the BYD Atto 3 comes with a comprehensive standard safety kit. The aforementioned is also reinforced by a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, which consist of lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree view camera, blind spot detection system, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning - among others. 

Under the hood of the BYD Atto 3 is an electric motor paired with a 60.5 kWh (Premium) Blade battery. At maximum, the model’s top-spec trim can generate up to 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque. It also has a range of 480 km, as indicated by the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

Additional EV-related features of the BYD Atto 3 include a vehicle-to-load feature, DC CCS2 fast charging, and AC charging.

MG 4

Also available in the Philippines as an alternative to the Lynk & Co 02 is the MG 4. Currently, the said model has a price ranging from P1,468,888-P2,000,888 across three variants. 

With regard to styling, the most eye-catching trim is the top-spec XPower variant. Overall, it features keen styling details, including contrast orange accents, large front vents, an aggressively designed rear bumper and rear diffuser, a black roof, and a more prominent “Twin Aero” rear spoiler. It is also the only MG 4 trim that comes with a panoramic sunroof. 

For extra convenience, the exterior of the model was likewise kitted out with power-folding side mirrors, LED lighting fixtures, frameless wipers, and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. 

Inside the five-seater MG EV crossover are loads of amenities such as leather upholstery, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, power-adjustable front row seats, a seven-inch digital gauge cluster, front and rear cabin armrests, and a 10-inch central infotainment screen linked to a six-piece speaker system. 

The aforementioned headunit comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Charging up devices inside the MG 4 is also done easily thanks to USB ports, a 12-volt accessory outlet, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. 

Other amenities present inside the MG 4 include the following:

• Auto-dimming rearview mirror
• Electronic parking brake
• Cupholders
• Leather-wrapped steering wheel
• Drive mode selector

Like its rivals, the MG 4’s safety kit is what you’d expect from a modern car. It also has an ADAS suite, which consists of autonomous emergency braking, speed alert, pedestrian warning system, intelligent headlamp control, blind spot indicator system, and lane keep assist - among others. 

In its most powerful form as the XPower trim, the MG 4’s electric motor can generate up to 429 hp and 600 Nm of torque. For range, the mid-spec Luxury variant offers 435 km from a single full charge, according to the WLTP. Charging for the MG 4, meanwhile, is done via a 3-phase Type 2 AC charging port.

Final thoughts

Overall, the Lynk & Co 02 offers a good balance of performance, style, and creature comforts, making it a strong contender against its biggest rivals. Although it is not the most powerful EV crossover on the market right now, its relatively accessible pricing makes it quite attractive to potential car buyers. 

Additionally, would-be adopters should be aware that Lynk & Co is backed by the automotive engineering know-how of Volvo and Geely. Like the other two, after all, Lynk & Co is also owned by the Zhejiang Geeling Holding Group.
