Hyundai Stargazer X: the sole variant

Hyundai Motor Philippines Incorporated (HMPH) released a sportier version of its family-oriented multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) sometime last year. The Stargazer X effectively expanded the nameplate’s roster and provided Filipino car buyers with a more athletic iteration of the vehicle. 

Currently, the model is offered in a single variant — simplifying trim selection for HMPH’s customers. Today, we are taking a quick look at what would-be owners can expect when purchasing the Hyundai Stargazer X.

Dimensions 

The Hyundai Stargazer X has an overall length of 4,495 millimeters (mm), an overall width of 1,815 mm, and an overall height of 1,710 mm. The MPV’s wheelbase measures 2,780 mm and clears the ground by 200 mm.

Upon close inspection, the Hyundai Stargazer X has a slightly larger body than the standard Stargazer model, which can give owners a better presence while on the road. In addition, the former has a higher ground clearance, making it more capable of conquering various terrains. 

Exterior 

Outside, the sole Hyundai Stargazer X variant boasts sport utility vehicle-like appointments, which gives it a more aggressive character. 

At the fore, the MPV has a three-dimensional fascia combined with a sculpted bonnet. The defined grillework is flanked by LED headlamps and a pair of bulb-type fog lamps. It also has a chin that looks sturdy and robust with a matte finish. 

The side profile of the Hyundai Stargazer X is highlighted by black wheel arches and claddings under each door. It also gets blacked-out pillars and a pair of two-tone side mirrors. Two non-load-bearing roof rails round up the features one can spot from this angle. 

It rides on a set of 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels. 

At the back, the family ferry gets a large rear glass, a spoiler with an integrated third brake lamp, a long horizontal light bar that connects the two angular taillamps, and a durable-looking bumper that echoes the styling cues of the vehicle’s front end. 

Interior

Inside, the Hyundai Stargazer X sports seats covered in leatherette upholstery with red stitching. The same material is used to swathe the MPV’s multi-functional steering wheel and gear shifter. 

Past the aforementioned steering wheel is an instrument cluster equipped with Hyundai’s Supervision 4.2-inch thin-film transistor screen. Complementing the instrument panel is an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and wireless Android Auto. 

Both the instrument cluster and the infotainment unit are placed in a sleek and stylish housing.

Powerplant, chassis 

HMPH is slowly inserting electrified models in its lineup, but that doesn’t make the Hyundai Stargazer X less capable than the Santa Fe Hybrid and Tucson Hybrid. 

Under the bonnet of the sporty MPV is a 1.5-liter Smartstream engine from Hyundai. It is mated to a continuously variable transmission, which the brand calls Intelligent Variable Transmission. 

The said setup makes as much as 113 horsepower with 144 Newton-meters of torque.

Providing ample stopping power are disc brakes, which measure 15 inches at the front and 14 inches at the rear. Suspension-wise, it uses Mac Phreson struts at the fore and a coupled torsion beam axle setup at the rear. In unison, the said arrangement offers good ride quality and provides the Hyundai Stargazer X with some nimbleness.
