Is BYD already in PH's Top 10 automotive brand list?

MANILA: Recently, BYD in the Philippines celebrated its 10,000th-unit local sales milestone that highlighted the Filipinos' growing acceptance to the brand.

The aforementioned fact is also evident in the growing number of vehicles under the Shenzhen-headquartered marque seen on the road. This feat could easily be attributed to the growing number of offerings and aggressive dealer network expansion locally.

But how strong BYD is in terms of sales in the country? Let’s check the numbers.

Earlier,  BYD Cars Philippines turned over the marque's 10,000th vehicle sold in the country — a white eMAX7 Standard variant — to its owner, tech industry executive Adrian Goh last April 30.

Deducting the 4,780 units handed over to customers in 2024, this means that the Chinese automaker’s local arm already retailed 5,220 examples in the country for the January-April 2025 period alone.

Should they be a part of the latest report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Incorporated (CAMPI), the marque would be on the eighth spot —just above Hyundai Motor Philippines’ 3,579-unit retail performance for January-April 2025.

With the company still having plans to add new models under its local roster (and we are still in the first half of the year), BYD’s local retail performance still has that strong potential to grow.

This would complement its goal of putting up 77 dealerships within the year, which shall cover key locations in Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

Last January, BYD also collaborated with Grab that would boost the availability of new-energy-powered vehicles to the latter's driver partners. The said partnership covers Southeast Asian nations, which include Philippines where the mobile app giant currently dominates.

Moreover, a 41-unit fleet of BYD Dolphins have been purchased to augment the Valenzuela City's police fleet as part of the part of local government unit's “transition to sustainable and eco-friendly alternative transportation.”
