The Jaecoo J7 SHS is the brand’s entry into the Philippine new-energy vehicle segment — a rather competitive space, especially for fellow Chinese car brands.

Pros:

Refined ruggedness

The Jaecoo J7 SHS has the looks of a capable compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), with modern appointments that make it an ideal choice for those looking for a weekend ride.

At the fore is a larger-than-life grille flanked by sharp clusters of lights that make up its headlamp system.

To its sides are thin claddings on the wheel wells that house a set of 19-inch wheels with 235/50 series tires.

Its rear boasts a discreet roof-mounted spoiler, checkered-design taillamps, and a wide bumper.

Intelligent technology

The Jaecoo J7 SHS also wows when it comes to its interior. Past its steering wheel is a wide digital instrument cluster accompanied by a 14.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless phone connectivity.

Audio is sent to an eight-speaker Sonny sound system.

It has a fast-charging 50-watt wireless smartphone charger and an intuitive column-mounted shifter for ease of driving.

Decent performance

Under the hood of the SUV is a smart range extender that juices up an electric motor placed at the front wheel axle.

It delivers enough performance to help owners get from point A to point B with 275 horsepower and 365 Newton-meters of torque. It has a range of 1,488 kilometers combined.

Cons:

Dual motor setup could be good

At the time of writing, the Jaecoo J7 SHS is only offered in a front-wheel drive setup.

Since the SUV looks rugged and capable enough, having a dual motor-powered variant, which effectively makes it an all-wheel drive vehicle, could have been good.

Pricing

The Jaecoo J7 SHS has a price tag that ranges from P1.399 million to P1.499 million, according to the company’s website.
