When Suzuki Philippines Incorporated (SPH) added the Fronx to its local lineup, it clearly reignited its strong stance in the crossover segment. 

To note, the brand’s local arm had previously been a strong contender in the subcompact crossover market with the Vitara. The aforementioned, of course, has been discontinued for some time now, and it was only in 2025 that SPH introduced the Fronx—an electrified crossover nameplate with enough chops to face rivals such as the Toyota Yaris Cross and Nissan Kicks e-POWER. 

With the Japanese marque’s entry retailed at a relatively accessible P1.299 million for its SGX Hybrid trim, it is sure to attract plenty of would-be buyers. But does this model have any particular weaknesses? Also, what are its key strengths? Let’s find out here. 

Pros

Eye-catching exterior

One of the clear strengths of the Suzuki Fronx is its exterior design. As far as first impressions go, the model manages to combine tasteful curves and corners with adventurous design details. Specifically, it features a somewhat smooth side section and a flat hood, paired with sharp LED lighting fixtures, a very aggressive rear bumper, and a sporty two-tone paint scheme.

Additionally, the model deviates slightly from the typical crossover stance via its “couple-like” silhouette. The aforementioned, Suzuki previously shared, is directly inspired by a picture of a thoroughbred running at full tilt. The result is a striking appearance “that combines strength, power, and style.”

Aside from its looks, the Philippine-spec Fronx's exterior is well-proportioned and fits well into the local driving environment. It is, after all, a compact ride that spans just 3,995 millimeters (mm) in length, and that could mean better maneuverability and confidence when navigating tight spots like alleyways and mall parking facilities. 

The aforementioned is combined with its generous ground clearance of 170 mm, which means the Fronx will have no issues with dealing with the occasional rough road and speed humps.

Cons

Hybrid trim, but not the peppiest in segment

The Suzuki Fronx SGX Hybrid isn't the peppiest hybrid crossover on the market right now. To further explain, its 1.5-liter mill and 12-volt hybrid system can generate up to 98 horsepower (hp) and 135 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

Surely, it has more than enough oomph to function as a daily driver, but it is overshadowed by the 109-horsepower Toyota Yaris Cross HEV and the 134-hp Nissan Kicks e-POWER. 

Otherwise, the Fronx GLX Hybrid can provide an efficient drive thanks to its electric motor and Engine Auto Start Stop System (EASS). For the unaware, the EASS automatically shuts off the car’s four-banger whenever it comes to a stop and is turned back on with the press of the accelerator. The said system is touted not just for reducing fuel costs but also for cutting emissions.
