Lynk & Co 01: pros and cons

The Lynk & Co 01 is already available in the Philippine market, and it is offered as another potent option for car buyers on the hunt for a stylish-looking hybrid vehicle. 

With a price of P2.338 million, it also entered the small local plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) crossover segment as a fairly accessible model. The only other PHEV crossover model that is cheaper than the 01 is the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i. 

The question now is, what are the pros and cons of the Lynk & Co 01? Let’s list the aforementioned down to aid prospective adopters. 

Lynk & Co 01: Pros

Peppy Powertrain

The 01 is one of the more powerful PHEV compact crossovers in the market right now. 

For reference, its powertrain can produce a total output of up to 258 horsepower (hp) and 265 Newton-meters of torque. With that kind of oomph, the Lynk & Co model is definitely peppier compared to the 214-hp BYD Sealion 6. 

Thanks to its output, the Chinese car brand claims that the 01 can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 7.9 seconds. The said acceleration rate is still far from approaching sports car levels, but it is quite quick for a crossover. 

With regards to how the 01 makes that amount of power, it uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine paired with an electronic motor and a battery pack. It is also linked to a seven-speed wet-type dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

In addition, the model also gets 69 kilometers of all-electric range, as well as a type 2 AC charging port. So it isn’t just fast but has great potential for fuel economy as well. 

Slick styling

Visually speaking, the Lynk & Co 01 is one of the more sleeker rides in the compact crossover segment right now. 

It doesn’t appear outrageous or too bombastically styled, mind you, but it instead sports a combination of unique designs and a slender and demure overall shape. 

The front end is probably the most eye-catching section of the car as it features a pair of “Aurora Borealis” daytime running LED lamps, the “Urban Matrix Air-inlet grille,” and the grille-integrated high-performance LED headlamp clusters. 

From the side, the vehicle’s styling cues are toned down a bit, but the said section still sports an attractive-looking set of 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels. It is likewise host to the vehicle’s black plastic claddings and its sculpted-looking doors. 

From the rear, the 01 gets more visual appeal thanks to its roof-mounted spoiler and its pair of “Energy Cube” LED taillights. Sportiness on this part of the ride is likewise enhanced by its dual exhaust setup and a silver-colored rear diffuser. 

Additionally, the Philippine-spec 01 likewise boasts a two-tone look, thanks to its black-colored roof. The aforementioned can be paired with several subtle but stylish color options, such as Blue, Gray, White, and Black. 

Loads of tech

Apart from sporting an attractively styled cockpit, the Lynk & Co 01 was also given plenty of onboard technologies.

For the entertainment needs of its occupants, the PHEV model was kitted out with a sizable 12.7-inch infotainment screen. The said screen comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it is linked to a 10-piece Harman Infinity audio system. Keeping devices topped up inside the 01 is also made easy thanks to a wireless smartphone charging pad. 

Furthermore, the 01 gets a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) as well. 

Chief among its collection of ADAS features is adaptive cruise control, which can do a lot in terms of alleviating driver fatigue on long road trips. It also has autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic jam assist, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning, among others. 

Lynk & Co 01: Cons

Only one available variant

The only downside to the Lynk & Co 01 is the fact that it is only available in one variant. As such, buyers will have no other variations to choose from if they’re gunning for the 01. 

Interestingly, the model is available in two different trims in other markets such as Kuwait. Specifically, the said market has access to a non-hybrid version, which uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged mill capable of putting out 218 horsepower. 

Final thoughts

Overall, Lynk & Co 01 offers a lot of value for its price. It is stylish on the outside and well-equipped on the inside. Plus, not many will have qualms about the amount of performance the vehicle can provide. 

Reading off pros and cons for particular car models, however, can only do so much for serious car buyers. The aforementioned may be useful for initial research, but those considering the 01 PHEV should give it a test drive first.
